According to Norwegian media, 2 people are now confirmed dead, and several persons are missing (4 missing is the latest number given).

The fire is reported to have started in the engine room, but it is not know if the deceased are crew or passengers.

The passengers where evacuated by the life boats and have been taken care of in Aalesund, and the ship is now docked there.

2 dead confirmed as crew (RIP) & 16 injured (2 seriously) also all crew. I believe only some passengers evacuated by lifeboats, others disembarked by emergency gangway once ship alongside.

Ship subsequently came close to capsize (c.22 degree list) after significant water ingress but now stabilised. Expect ship will be out of service for (at least) several weeks.

Plenty of video, photos & news reports if you do a Google search on MS Nordlys etc.

There has been som controversy between Hurtigruten and The Accident Investigation Board Norway (AIBN), concerning a fuel pump which had loose bolts. The AIBN has seen this as a possible cause of the fire, while Hurtigruten and its chief engineers has viewed it as a result of the fire. Det Norske Veritas (DNV, a Norwegian independent risk management organization) has looked into this, and in a report the DNV has concluded that Hurtigruten could be right about this. The AIBN is willing to evaluate the DNV's conclusion.

The Directorate for Civil Protection and Emergency Planning (DSB) has released a report (in Norwegian) about the handling of the fire aboard the MS Nordlys. The conclusion is that Ålesund Fire Department and others involved handled the accident well. This also includes the MS Nordlys' crew, who contributed to keeping the consequences of the fire from being even worse: http://www.dsb.no/Global/Publikasjoner/Granskingsrapporter/evaluering_nordlys.pdf

MS Nordlys has now been in traffic since the end of March. A 100.000 man hours have been put in to getting this beautiful ship refurbished. There's also been made a lot of upgrades so now she's as good as new, maybe even better. Her return was slightly delayed due to extensive testing of new equipment, but on the 28th of March she left Tromsø for regular traffic. Good to have her back!

Short video clip of her when we sailed past in the Arctic in April. Looking good.
