RIP Platinum Benefits?

I heard a nasty rumor from a friend that Carnival is considering getting rid of the Platinum Member benefits/program which will only leave the Milestone program. I hope this is totally false. Has anyone heard anything about this?

Come on stops spreading false info.

and there would still be a line drawn as well, let's just say no matter how they get there, those with 8 cruises are "comped" to platinum. I would then be pissed if i was at 7.

During the RCCL conversion, didn't they credit days per existing credit into the new system, then give a bump across the board so nobody lost days compared to actual sailed days?

Something like this (though I'm guessing at the numbers):

7 cruises = 56 days (7*7 +7)

8 cruises = 63 days

9 cruises = 70 days

etc

Essentially, they made it so you were as well off (or better) than you were before and everyone retained their relative position to each other. True there are some catches with milestone, but it seems like simple model for CCL to adapt.

Yep... that rumor is totally false. They are developing a loyalty program that's based on days sailed rather than number of cruises but that's still in the planning stages.

The folks at Carnival have promised that Platinum folks won't lose their perks. The concept is to make the program more attractive... not less.

:)

All I hope is that the Perks are better! I look forward to not being waitlisted on YTD

That would be an awesome way to do it!

The survey says - you will earn one cruise point for every day you spend on board a Carnival Fun Ship. Each time you sail with us, you will enjoy the same set of basic member benefits until you collect a total of 25 cruise points. At that time, you will reach the second membership tier and can enjoy an expanded set of benefits. Guests who have collected 75 cruise points will reach the third membership tier and enjoy even more program benefits. And the fourth and highest benefit tier is for those who have collected 225 cruise points.

On the pages that followed it showed different cards and symbols for the tiers. Under the symbol it shows 1-24 cruise points, 25-74 cruise points, etc. So yes, it does talk about cruise points but only about earning one point per day sailed.

Who knows?
Everyone keeps saying “days”. What I have seen says “points”. That makes me believe that you will get points for days at sea and for other things also. Not sure what. But I guess we will see March 1st of next year.
Heh... I was literally just going to post about that. I find the phrasing of using "points" instead of "days" very interesting. It implies to me that there will be other ways of earning points than just days cruised.

I vaguely recall a discussion a year or so ago on the topic of using cruise days vs. trips where someone suggested you get credit for each day, plus a credit for each trip as a compromise. Something like you get 1 credit per day, plus 2 or 3 credits per cruise. So a 7 day cruise might give you 9 or 10 credits, and a 3 day cruise would be 5 or 6.

That's just one idea that came up. Another was to base points (or additional points) on the price payed for the cruise, kind of like a reward points program. Or getting double cruise points, or extra points, for having a suite or something like that.

Personally, I'd love to seem them offer double cruise points for solos who are paying 200%, as Princess apparently does. (I'll be around 45 days after my 9th Carnival cruise coming up later this week, but if they count solos as double I'd be over 80... :D ) I'm not holding my breath, though.
Platinum, Gold, Tin or Lead.....

Who cares? How divisive is this system? On our last cruise, we had the great misfortune of being seated with a couple on their 39th Carnival cruise. Their perks were all they could talk about, and they kept assuring us that we too could be like them some day. PLEASE NO!

I doubt many people cruise for those precious "perks" but there obviously are some. I just don't understand that anymore than I understand buying a particular cereal to get the magic decoder ring, it's the same principle.

Now that this is settled, where is my drink?
[I]You're absolutely right, gliner.

I love the early embarkation, but if I had to wait in line and board with everyone else, I wouldn't mind it a bit. Its just not a big deal. I also like the "free" laundry, but if I had to I would do my own laundry by myself. Again, its just not a big deal.

Years ago, I used to ask the cashier in the casino cage, how many PLATINUMS ? (Free Tournament). I was accustomed to seeing 25-40 paxs on the list, but nowadays there are pages of them ! ! Its lost a lot of its exclusivity. I still can't see why so many paxs put so much emphasis on this or even "worry" about some simple changes to the program. Its just NOT A BIG DEAL.
