Goatherder61 Posted September 24, 2011 #1 Share Posted September 24, 2011 Can we do Villefranche to St Paul de Vence then Montecarlo and back to ship in one day ? Trains, bus, or rent a car ??
baggal Posted September 24, 2011 #2 Share Posted September 24, 2011 Yes you can but probably not by train and bus, the connections are too difficult. We had a private tour that we arranged through our roll call. It was a long, but worthwhile day.

French_Al Posted September 24, 2011 #4 Share Posted September 24, 2011 the round trip comes up as 1hr 33 mins on google maps. http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Villefranche-sur-Mer,+France&daddr=Saint-Paul+de+Vence,+France+to:Monaco+to:Villefranche-sur-Mer,+France&hl=en&sll=43.738418,7.424616&sspn=5.262082,8.470459&geocode=FajemgIdBY9vACkTTuOwKdvNEjH0KMfrrmSGFA%3BFU3DmgId2qxsACkbpNoL5tLNEjHwl5f9pRkIBA%3BFTJlmwIdaEpxACkxhT97b8LNEjH8nMQ6THj3dA%3BFajemgIdBY9vACkTTuOwKdvNEjH0KMfrrmSGFA&vpsrc=0&mra=ls&t=h&z=11 i would say it will be longer Villefranche -> st. paul 45 mins st. paul -> monaco 1hr monaco -> ville franche 15mins villefranche is a tender port and hence you will need to be the 1st off the ship. Rare Hlitner Posted September 24, 2011 #5 Share Posted September 24, 2011 The best way to do this would be to simply rent a car and drive yourself which is a much cheaper option then hiring a private driver. There is one local auto rental company that will normally deliver to the tender pier http://www.locauto.fr/agencies/rent-car/alpes-maritimes/villefranche-sur-mer_uk.htm If you want to do it with public transportation it will be a bit rushed. You should get one of the early tenders (if possible) and immediately grab the 100 bus (or another number that is going to Nice) and take it to the last stop which is the bus station in Nice. As that station you then grab the #400 bus which will take you to St Paul de Vence. For the return you would take the same #400 bus towards Nice, but you might want to get off at the Cagnes sur Mer stop (ask the driver for the stop near the train station) where you then grab the next train to Monte Carlo. And finally you would take either the train or 100 bus from Monte Carlo back to Villefranche. But this all takes time (it can be 1 1/2 hours to get to St Paul de Vence depending on connections). Pushkin Posted September 25, 2011 #6 Share Posted September 25, 2011 Can we do Villefranche to St Paul de Vence then Montecarlo and back to ship in one day ? Trains, bus, or rent a car ?? Our group of 6 hired a private car/driver (Ingrid of Kultours who was great). The price was 500 E total. We went to Nice, St. Paul de Vence, Monaco/Monte Carlo and Eze. It was a very enjoyable day. sippican Posted September 29, 2011 #7 Share Posted September 29, 2011 We were planning to rent a car to DIY this port and changed our mind at the last moment. After seeing the narrow roads and the difficulty with parking near the attractions, DH is sooooo glad we did not do that! We used Michele of Exclusive Riviera and had one of the best days of our entire trip. Also, be aware that many of our fellow cruisers felt that they lost much valuable time waiting at train stations, and had to miss out on some things they had hoped to see.
