sailandcruise Posted September 25, 2011 #1 Share Posted September 25, 2011 I have booked the October 23 sailing on Celebrity Summit. At the time of booking, the double occupancy fare was $299 and the single occupancy fare was 175% of that amount. According to the FAQ's about the RCCL Shareholder Benefit posted on their web site here http://www.rclinvestor.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=103045&p=irol-shareholderbenefit#8 "Single guests paying 200% of applicable fare shall receive full value of certificate." It doesn't say anything about the value of the certificate for single [occupancy] guests whose fare is less than 200%. So, how much OBC will I receive? trabeler Posted September 25, 2011 #2 Share Posted September 25, 2011 My understanding is that you'll get 50% of the OBC if you haven't paid 200% of the single person rate. It would be worth a call to them to clarify, however.
j in tx Posted September 25, 2011 #3 Share Posted September 25, 2011 I have used my shareholder credit twice. Both times I received $200. credit on twelve day cruises. I had also booked with a senior discount (and single). You should go ahead and apply for it. I received confirmation within a couple of days. Oh yes, I also booked directly with RCL, too. Hope this helps!
sailandcruise Posted October 12, 2011 Author #4 Share Posted October 12, 2011 Well, I emailed RCL's shareholder benefit team today with the required information and within the hour I got a response that gave me the full $100 credit -- the same amount that would have been given to my stateroom if there were two people on the reservation. Kudos to RCL/Celebrity for this policy and for the prompt processing. :D Does anyone know if there are limits on the use of the credit? I know it can't be refunded for cash (this is the only restriction I can find on their website), but can it be applied to gratuities or just to things like drinks, specialty restaurant fees, on-board purchases, and shore excursions? Hi:) the credit will be put onto your account....it will be deducted from total....so lets say you end up spending 500 bucks less(100.00) you will owe 400.00.....it will just go on the account and your purchases go on there too...if the purchases exceed the credit you will still owe the difference....drinks, excursions, tips, etc.... they ALL go onto the account....make sense? RMSeadog Posted October 12, 2011 #6 Share Posted October 12, 2011 I once asked if I book into one cabin and my wife books into another are we both eligible for OBC? The answer was yes, if both names are on the stock account. I would "assume" that a single cruiser with joint holdings would be eligible for the OBC. ~ Ric

You wouldn't get double on a single cruise with 2 cabins booked. To get the full stockholder credit, each would have to own 100 shares.

Thanks Lois. :) I understand that if I spend a lot more than the credit, it is just deducted from my total. My question was more about what the minimum I need to spend is to take full advantage of the credit, since I'm not planning to purchase any shore excursions, specialty restaurants, spa treatments, or other expensive items, just a few drinks perhaps. Since it is non-refundable for cash, after deducting $69 for gratuities I have $31 remaining that is "use-or-lose'" for drinks, etc. If the credit were not applicable to gratuities the entire $100 would be "use-or-lose" and I would still have to pay an additional $69 for gratuities. I had read somewhere that the credit is not applicable to gratuities. Turns out that where I had read this was not on Celebrity's or RCCL's web site, but on the CCL (Carnival Corp.) web site. Their credit is not applicable to casino credits/charges or to gratuities. (And it's also not as generous as RCL's -- only $50 for 6 nights compared to RCCL's $100 for my 6 night cruise.) So I should be able to use this for gratuities and other charges, and will save the full $100, rather than just getting additional amenities that while enjoyable, aren't worth their full cost to me. :) Even better, the stock is up $3.53 from the price at which I bought, so the profit already offsets a significant amount of what I've paid for the cruise. :D
