klang Posted September 27, 2011 #1 Share Posted September 27, 2011 I'm crusing on Eclipse on Feb 4, 2012. I'm a big football fan, but my birthday (and birthday vacation) is always at the same time as the Super Bowl. What does Celebrity do for the Super Bowl? I've been on RCCL 2 years ago for the big game and they had tons of activities, places to watch, former players and ESPN commentators on board. PartyAllDaTyme Posted September 27, 2011 #2 Share Posted September 27, 2011 One of my favorite topics! Well, no former players or ESPN commentators that I was aware of, but for the last cruise they showed the game in the main theater on a movie theatre-sized projection screen. A buffet of "tailgate"-type food was provided, but, being Celebrity, it was mostly high-end tailgate-type food (but no bratwurst-- inexcusable, in the eyes of a Packer fan;)). Beverages were available for purchase, and I got a bucket of Buds so I would not be distracted by having to constantly(:cool:) be looking for refills. The theater was decorated, balloons and streamers in the team colors on each side of the theater-- Packer fans to the right, Steeler fans to the left. At the entrance to the theater, they had ice sculptures of the team logos. They also had TVs set up in the casino, and of course you could watch the game in your cabin. They were able to get access to the encrypted Fox affiliate feed, which is what they feed the local stations. That meant we got to see all the national commercials (which weren't that memorable this year). I understand that they usually got an international feed that had endless soccer promos in all the commercial positions.

kitty9 Posted September 27, 2011 #4 Share Posted September 27, 2011 On one cruise in South America, they showed the Super Bowl, but it was all in Spanish. Since we were so far south, they could not find and English feed. Pretty interesting.
Rare Lois R Posted September 27, 2011 #5 Share Posted September 27, 2011 I was on the same cruise as Steve:) Hi Steve.... We had a lot of fun on that cruise! The Main Theater had a GIANT Screen.....took up the whole stage:D...lots of food, drinks and overall a great time! They also showed it in the Casino and if you wanted to watch in your cabin you could do that as well.
PartyAllDaTyme Posted September 28, 2011 #6 Share Posted September 28, 2011 Hi back, Lois!:) I see you wasted no time in rebooking your canceled Bermuda cruise, good for you-- I'm still amazed that Celebrity offered to do that. Hope you're getting along OK these days. I think of you every time I see a Jaguars score.;)
Rare Lois R Posted September 28, 2011 #7 Share Posted September 28, 2011 Hi back, Lois!:) I see you wasted no time in rebooking your canceled Bermuda cruise, good for you-- I'm still amazed that Celebrity offered to do that. Hope you're getting along OK these days. I think of you every time I see a Jaguars score.;) Well, I have a week's vacation time left so I thought I would book another cruise. I think in 6 more weeks I will feel a bit more excited. But I do think sitting on the balcony having good memories of my Dad will help:) The Jaguars scored? THAT is far and few between:rolleyes:....and the Saints come to town this Sunday, can you say "Another Loss"......
Arethel Posted September 30, 2011 #8 Share Posted September 30, 2011 What about regualer season NFL games? I am from chicago and am highly curious about the likelyhood of being able to catch the bears games that will be on during my cruise.
PartyAllDaTyme Posted September 30, 2011 #9 Share Posted September 30, 2011 If it's a nationally televised game, I think so, but if it's just regional coverage of one game out of ten or so that starts Sunday at noon, I doubt it. I don't know for sure, though.
