trophy_23 Posted September 28, 2011 #2 Share Posted September 28, 2011 I dont know for sure but imagine it would work by joining a local network (Rogers, Bell, Telus) and then charge some sort of roaming fee? When I go to the US mine will join AT&T where available and I get charged a roaming fee to use their network.
Putterdude Posted September 28, 2011 #3 Share Posted September 28, 2011 In many areas it will, however Canada is a large country....in fact larger than the US .... so it will depend upon where you are. I would check with Verizon and determine which Canadian services they work with and what the roaming charges are, Verizon may very well have a plan for roaming Canada that may prove to be cost efficient for you. fink402 Posted September 29, 2011 #4 Share Posted September 29, 2011 I suggest calling Verizon to ask about your particular plan. Each one is different. Mine, for instance, has roaming charges for using voice in Canada, but texts are the same as within the US.
reallyitsmema Posted September 29, 2011 #5 Share Posted September 29, 2011 Yes, your Verizon phone will work in Canada. You need to have International Dialing (I-Dial) activated on your phone. This is free to activate and will require you to program your phone using *228. Calls are $0.69 per minute and texts are free if you have an unlimited text plan, otherwise they will be billed at your contracted rate. Call Verizon. http://b2b.vzw.com/international/Roaming/North_America/Canada.html
go titans Posted October 5, 2011 #6 Share Posted October 5, 2011 Just got back from Canada and I have the unlimited text plan with Verizon and except for it being spotty at times in places really had no problem texting back and forth. Did not use calling feature, just text. Be sure to call Verizon to activate International service BEFORE you leave the US though.
celestialcruiser Posted November 4, 2011 #7 Share Posted November 4, 2011 Whenever we go to Canada, I just call Verizon and change my plan to the North America plan. My husband has text and email on his phone and those are included along with our minutes (although they are reduced some). It's about $50 extra a month to add on the North America plan but you can do it for just a week or two weeks or however long you want and they pro rate the amount. You can even set it up so it automatically switches back to your normal plan on the day you want it to change back.
