Disembarking QM2 in NYC

We plan to travel home to Florida by train from Penn Station after a QM2 crossing next April/May. We'd like to take a train that departs around 11am. If we dock in Manhattan, I think we could make it with self-debarkation and a taxi, but what about if we dock in Brooklyn? Any thoughts or ideas would be most appreciated.

Since you are using self-help disembarkation you should have plenty of time to get from Redhook in Brooklyn to Penn Station in Manhattan. The ship will usually dock about 6:30AM and will clear for disembarkation by 7AM, leaving you plenty of time to get a taxi to midtown Manhattan.

You really should not have a problem, self disembark is fast, but please make sure you the pursers office and get the right labels sent to you, even if you have more bags you will find them all down there early, taxis are right outside the door,

We always get off early around 9am for the trip into NYC to see our friends before returning to the ship, we are always there around 10am

As mariepr said, there will be no problem having enough time to get to Penn Station if you self-disembark. Just be aware that you need to handle all of your luggage yourself with no help provided. If you have a sleeping car reserved for the Amtrak trip to Florida, you can use the Acela Lounge at Penn Station to store your luggage and have some coffee and a pastry or walk around that area..

reminder too that there's a weight limit on cases on Amtrak. 50lbs ?? We were over with one of ours & ended up having to buy a new holdall. Though they do give you a free cardboard box! Which others used & just repacked their case when they got off the train.

Thanks for the weight limit reminder. We have travelled Amtrak before and once had to do some repacking on the platform before we could check in our bags! We are going to try to pack light for this trip as we will be away for 5 weeks and will have to do some bag-schlepping ourselves!

We took Amtrak to and from Chicago. The risk of missing the cruise due to airport closings in January was too much stress.

We had a great cab on the way to pier and got the cabbies cell number for our return.

The guy that picked us up had no idea where Penn station was and we couldn't help him because he didn't speak English.

We felt like we were on the doomed 3 hour tour minus Thurston Howell III, who we really needed to pay the cab fare
