port canaveral

I may be safer to be at the dock instead of trying to negotiate the channel out to sea. We had one RCI Captain tell us in one of the Q&A sessions that Port Canaveral was a very challenging port during periods of high wind. I live very nearby and it is blowing pretty good, I'm sure it is even worse at the port.

It also depends on the ship, probably harder with the Monarch because it does not have Azipod propulsion which can be turned more to assist in high cross winds. Every ship has a set limit on the amount of cross winds the ship can handle before there is trouble, some higher than others.

Well I just checked the web cam and they are still there. At least they are not rocking and rolling at sea. I am sure the night time activities are in full swing. Interesting since they are still in port if the shops got speacial permision to open up along with the Casino on Carnival.

Now with the Monarch on the way back from Coc Cay will that be delayed coming in with this storm.

Hello everyone, The thread on Disney and carnival state that the Sensation is now staying in port till at least 7am tommorrow. the weather here is terrible....

Any status on the Freedom? last check was 11knots in the heart of the low. I cannot find an update. I am sure they are fine minus some rocking.... thats a huge ship!

Another good question out there is if the Cruise line set a definate time to leave and allowed guests off to visit the local eating places around the port.

I doubt anyone would want to get off the ship in that nasty weather.......If I was them,I would just enjoy all the ship has to offer..

Well I can see that as a possibility. Since those Terminals are not used in the morning. Freedom could have stayed as well but then that would either delay the Monarch or move the Monarch to a different Terminal.

Just saw an update she hasn't gone far, in fact she apparently has turned into the swell way it looked, this was from about 1 hour ago and now she has dropped off the tracker again. A buoy out there 20 miles off PC was reporting Sustained winds of over 40 knots and gust to 58 knots at 920 ET. The last sea height it showed was 22 feet but no sea data for the last hour or two.

if the pilot decides he can not safely get off the ship once they clear the harbor, further movements are suspended. Similarly if a ship wanted to come in but the pilot can not board - they wait.

would not be the first time that after the first ship left and they {pilot} managed to get off (or maybe didn't and are still there?????) the word came "no more for now"

....

don't know in this case, just another experience from the bridge
