trouble for MSC MAGNIFICA

After missing the port of Izmir due to heavy winds on this weeks sailing, there is more trouble for Magnifica - due to heavy fog the ship will not be able to sail into Venice and is going to the port of Trieste. It's still not known, how they will handle nearly 3000 pax who are waiting this moment in Venice to board the ship which is going to Trieste. Or how they will disembark in Trieste.

Going to pick my parents from the cruise, will post if something new happens.

Oh, that doesn't sound good. Any idea how often such fog causes problems in Venice? Best of luck picking up your family from Trieste. I'm sure it will be crazy since they won't really be prepared to handle disembarkation for so many.

Just a quick update : its now past midnight, my parents are safely home.

There was such a chaos in Trieste : no information given, no food or water provided for people waiting for embark (some for more than 10 hours !.

Costa Victoria also in Trieste for the same reason. One hour after midnight both ships are still in port. More info tomorrow.

It's Cunard Queen Victoria that's there. They have two overnights. They are shuttling from airport if one had Cunard air or from Venice cruise terminal if on one's own.

We were booked on this as a 28 day B2B and there was an overnight on end of first cruise and beginning of second, thus the two nights, so not a surprise they are still there.

Unfortunately (or fortunately perhaps), we had to cancel at the last minute and I'm just watching this play out from reports on the Cunard board and our roll call. Too bad as the time in Venice was the reason many booked this, quite a few as the B2B.

Last update : The Trieste port was very busy for 2 days - because of the fog the Venice port was closed saturday and sunday ! On saturday with MSC MAgnifica and Costa Victoria, on sunday Costa Favolosa and Queen Victoria. Totaling 16.000 pax in 2 days. 80 buses travelling non-stop from Venice to Trieste and back (a 2 hour journey).

  • 2 weeks later...

One word, Nightmare! MSC could have made it so much better by just giving us info. after flying from Atlanta to Milan followed by a one hour bus to Milan Central then 2 1/2 hours by train, walk across the street, catch a people mover 200 yards, another bus to terminal only to find out we needed to board a two hour bus to Trieste. All this with a two year old. arriving in Trieste is when the real nightmare began. No info. we were left on the bus about a half mile from the ship and after about an hour of just sitting on the bus the only info given from the Belgium bus crew was that a two Euro tip per person was expected and that the wait could be anywhere from 5 minutes to 6 hours, with this gem of information we decided to walk to the terminal in the very cold evening weather. Once arriving at the terminal and still Unable to get info (it's now roughly 9pm) since no MSC rep could be found only a security guard telling us to wait upstairs in the terminal building, where again, no MSC rep. Seeing that they were still disembarking, we walked to local pizzeria for dinner. After lots of wine and some great pizza we returned to terminal and by luck we were in the right place at the right time. Somehow we managed to in a group of about 20 passengers that boarded first. From our bacony we were able to watch the other poor passengers stand in line to slowly board.

Seriously? Surely this should be the responsibility of the line organising the transfers.
