Best experiences around Limon, Costa Rica

We have a 12 hour port stop in Limon in late January and are thinking of takiing a private tour co. to both Tortuguero Canals and Veragua Rainforest Does this seem like a good idea? Are the canals worth the long drive? Thanks for your input
