CSSPELL Posted April 10, 2005 #1 Share Posted April 10, 2005 Need help deciding which port to book for a fishing trip. We are traveling on Sep 4 2005 and have a choice of Juneau or Ketchikan. Are the trips booked through RCL as good as what is available online?
alaskandude Posted April 10, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 10, 2005 Ketchikan is the salmon capitol of the world, and I think it is better to book your trip yourself. You will save some money.
eljaydj Posted April 11, 2005 #3 Share Posted April 11, 2005 Alaskandude, we will be in Ketchikan on 5/24. Have heard it is too early for Salmon? If so, would you still suggest a fising trip for something else? Is fishing good that time in May?
wolfie11 Posted April 11, 2005 #4 Share Posted April 11, 2005 I'd go just for the halibut...but king salmon fishing is usually good in late May in Southeast Alaska.

Are the trips booked through RCL as good as what is available online? Ketchikan is a great place to fish in calm waters. True Alaska Charters in Ketchikan offers a wonderfully flexible and personalized 4-6 hr trip. You can fish for anything you want, if you don't catch one kind of fish, Bruce will take you somewhere else to catch something else. It is $120/pp for 2 and $100/pp for 4. Let Bruce know that Hellen recommended him and he will take good care of you. He will also pick you up at the cruise dock. :)

May is a great time for both king salmon and halibut. :)

obxlover Posted April 11, 2005 #8 Share Posted April 11, 2005 I just signed up with Northern Light Charters to go salmon fishing with Ken in Ketchikan on June 30th (there will be four in our party). He is wonderful! He is very friendly and we cannot wait to meet him. His wife is picking us up at the pier and he will taking us out. His prices are great as well. His phone numner is 1 888 550-8488. Here is his website: http://www.ketchikanfishing.net/. I would definitely recommend Ken!!
AK*Angel Posted April 11, 2005 #9 Share Posted April 11, 2005 Juneau has great King fishing in May, September is a bit iffy though. If you are looking for a great captain in Juneau. Call Ole and Sandy Bartness with Islander Charters (907)790.3950. He has fished here all his life and is one of the top-noted fisherman in the area. He fishes a 37' Tollycraft with his wife and they catch fish, and they'll pick you up at the pier and help you get your catch processed. Have a great day!
