Christmas on Seabourn

We are thinking off doing the Caribean on the Quest for next Xmas and New Year, however we were on Siversea over the same period 2 years ago and the decorations were virtually non existent with absolutely no Christmas atmosphere. What is Christmas like on Seabourn - carols, services, decorations? Bearing in mind the type of ships with seaboard are there likely to be many children on board?

Here on the Legend they did make an effort to put up Xmas trees in the public lounges, pointsetia's in each suite, garlands around the ship, a ginger bread house or two and some caroling last night. We have 6-8 "rug rats" onboard mostly well behaved other than the running up and down the hallways at 6:30am or smoking in the hallways, dinning room, elevators and at the sky bar.

Can you still smoke indoors on seaboard?

YES!...it SUCKS!...they should change that policy and quick!...so stupid you can smoke at the bar at the Sky Bar but you can't during the meal times, on one side of the Midnight Sun Lounge you can smoke as well....makes no sense! They should designate ONE AREA only and ban it as well in all cabins.

Next time any one of us buys a cruise line we can ban smoking any where we like.

I am sure Seabourn could follow the lead of Holland America and now Princess since they are owned by Carnival as well.

Princess Cruises Announces New Smoking Policy

Line Will Prohibit Smoking in Cabins and Balconies Starting January 15

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (June 15, 2011) -- Princess Cruises has announced that smoking will no longer be allowed in passenger staterooms or on balconies, effective on all sailings departing after January 15, 2012.

The new policy reflects changing customer preferences and the move around the globe -- from North America to Europe -- to further restrict areas where smoking is allowed, according to the line.

"Our consumer studies now show that smokers are a small minority of our passengers, and that the large majority of passengers value having their primary living space onboard smoke-free," said Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises executive vice president.

Swartz added that balconies are included in the new policy because they are a hallmark feature of Princess ships, and the line believes it's important to keep that peaceful space clear of smoke.

She added that Princess still welcomes passengers who smoke, and will continue to provide special venues around the ship to accommodate smokers. Smoking will continue to be allowed in the Churchill's cigar lounge, a section of the disco and casino, and a portion of the open decks.Booked passengers are being notified of the new policy, which is also being communicated widely throughout the line's informational materials.

We have sailed on Regent in the past, our first Seabourn trip is 1/31. If the smoking issue is a problem, it will be our last. We just won't deal with that. Smoking inside should be banned. So sorry if you disagree.

Smoking is one of the reasons we are not keen on cruising with Regent again.

I do agree that Regent also has a problem. We were waiting to be seated in Compass Rose and were told to go the Voyager Lounge. Half of the lounge was smoking and we complained and were told that this was where smokers were allowed. We did complain and wrote a letter to Regent when we returned - no response! When will they "get it."

I have to say that it did not occur to us to inquire about smoking policies when we booked with Seabourn. I assumed that the only smoking on board would be limited to defined public areas. Am I understanding that Seabourn permits smoking in the cabins? I do not recall a choice re smoking or nonsmoking when we booked. It is too late now to cancel, and we are certainly do not want to spend our trip in a room that smells of smoke. Someone please tell me I am missunderstanding the thread.

AKPAT - We are non-smokers and we were on the Sojourn in June/July 2011 as well as the Quest November/December 2011. We did not detect any residual smoke in our stateroom on either cruise. The only time I can recall smelling cigarette smoke on either ship was on deck 5 of the Sojourn and that was when we walked by the conference rooms. We did encounter one individual smoking MJ on the outside sitting area of Seabourn Square on deck 7 of the Quest. That was a first for us on a luxury vessel.

detected any problems with SMOKING on the Pride. However, in our suite, OS 6, we have a second bathroom. The entire sink has cigarette burns around the edge. They tried to cover it with paint, but it has chipped off. It looks rather disgusting. However, it is what it is, and I don't smell any smioke in the suite. We have not had any problems in any of the public areas. I think people in general are "getting it" and there are not that many smokers as there were in the past. It isn't my choice to be bothered by it though.

After 14 days on the Quest in September, the ONLY area where smoking was an issue was the Observation Lounge on Deck 10. Here smoking is permitted on the starboard side. However, it is lunacy for Seabourn management to think that smoke will not quickly permeate the whole room. Even the pianist was complaining!
