My cruise my room attendant hid in my closet the entire time(figuratively). I could leave the room to go get a slice of pizza, and I'd come back to a clean room. lol. it was pretty crazy. He also remembered my name, and greeted me when I passed him, even if it meant shouting down the hallway. That guy put a smile on my face the entire cruise!

Our first cruise was for our 2 year anniversary, honeymoon we never had, and welcome back from 8 months in Iraq for my husband. I forced my husband to wear his dress blues at dinner because I totally love the Marine Corps dress blues, he hates wearing it and is nervous about getting attention. We were sitting in the middle of the lower level and a man on the upper level saw him and brought us a bottle of wine. I thought that was really generous. He also made sure our glass never went empty and had a couple of "chats" with the waiter when he saw our glasses went empty. I felt bad about that part.

Our second cruise we brought some battery operated tea lights for our inside room. We never took them out of the package and one night we returned to dinner with the bed covered in rose petals and the lights flickering. We were cruising with my husband's coworker and his wife and the other husband tried to take responsibility (their room was also decorated in some way) but thankfully we figured out the real truth. He had nothing to do with it, didn't even know about it. Our wonderful room attendant had done it for us. When we tried to thank her she kept apologizing over and over begging us not to be angry that she touched our stuff and to please not tell because she could get in trouble. No way would that have crossed our minds, we were incredibly happy and grateful for the sweet surprise.

On one of our trips, the heel tip on one of my dressy shoes had become lose and was about to fall off. I asked our cabin attendant if there was a stash of glue somewhere that I could use to fix it thinking that the cruiseline might have a cabinet of repair supplies, but he said there wasn't; although he did have some glue in his own cabin that I could use. He returned a few minutes later with his own personal bottle of glue and within minutes, my shoe fixed. I thanked him profusely (and of course tipped him) for being so helpful and for sharing his own personal repair supplies.

We were on the Navigator last month and they offer the Late Departure programme where you pay a bit extra to stay on the ship the last day until late afternoon. You have to leave the room at 9am.

Our stateroom attendant told us the last evening that we could stay in our cabin at least until noon if we wanted. She asked us just to put the "Do not Disturb" note on so she would remember that we were still inside.

She was an absolute gem. We left her a big tip :D

On our very first cruise on Disney, DD who was 4 at the time, was having a bad day. First, she had gotten her toe run over by the ramp on the Glass Bottom boat in Nassau. She ended up losing her big toe nail because of it so it was pretty painful for her. Second, we were in the main theater waiting for "Who Wants to be a Mouseketeer" to start when a waiter walking down the row behind us tripped and he dumped a tray full of Bahama Mama's on my head and lap. DD was sitting next to me so she got splattered. I screamed in surprise and she started crying hysterically because I had scared her with my scream and she thought her new dress was "ruined". The poor waiter apologized profusely and offered to get our dresses cleaned and free drinks for our group. I took DD back to the room so we could shower and change and then took her to the ship store to get her a stuffed Mini-Mouse. We told the lady at checkout about DD's bad day and she gave her a mini-mouse pin to match the stuffed doll we just purchased. It was the highlight in DD's bad day that she still remembers at 15.

One year on Celebrity Century we had the best waiter ever! I swear he didn't have any other tables because he would spend the majority of the night chatting with us about his life experiences and the upcoming ports. He filled us in on his favorite beach to go to in St. Martian. We told him we’d follow his advice and give him our review the next night. Shortly after we arrived, there was Vukman! He had come to hang out with us on the beach on his day off. He even bought a shark key chain for my younger sister so she'd always remember that day. It was great to be able to connect with the cruise staff like that!

My parents bought me and my husband two surprise cruises (one for Christmas, one for our birthdays). I was shocked by their generosity each time! They also bought us some OBC, too. That's the nicest cruise related thing someone could have done!

Our dining tablemates were from Taiwan. They were celebrating their daughter's graduation from college. Their daughter translated for us. On our wedding anniversary, the couple from Taiwan went to the photo gallery and purchased our 8x10 photo, with the ship's photo, in a padded folding frame, as an anniversary gift. Another couple purchased the cruise's video for us. :)

Captain invited me to the bridge for a port arrival and we discussed the landing. When things went bad he asked my advice .... and took it.

Another time while on another bridge invite - dd sounded the horn on Disney leaving port

My husband's Grandma gifted us a cruise to Alaska - leaving this Sunday July 22nd. She really wanted to go to Alaska and we were going to go in her place, take pictures, tell her all about it, etc. She passed away earlier this month, but we'll be thinking of her every step of the way.

I fell and badly injured my ankle at the General Bernardo O'Higgins base on Antarctica. Immediately after I fell, several young Chilean men rushed to help me up. They urged me to remove the boot on the injured ankle before the swelling might require cutting the boot. They offered to carry me to see their base physician (a bit of a trek!) and kept checking on me and trying to make me as comfortable as possible until I could make it to the Zodiac to take me back to my ship.

It took 8 months for my ankle to heal and was one of the most painful soft tissue injuries I have ever sustained. However, I will never forget the genuine warmth and quick response of those sweet Chilean guys.

OK, I really needed this thread today! I'm loving the stories, but I need to say:

luvs2beachit - you made me cry

peery5 - no matter if it was a scam, your response was RIGHT

sweetcupcakegirl - YES. paying it forward is its own reward - as you well know.

Again, I REALLY needed this today! Thank you for bringing it back to the forefront.

Last year we took 7 grandkids (without their parents!), ages 5-11 on the Royal Caribbean Navigator of the Seas. We had lots of talks with the kids, including a cruise behaviour contract that they had to sign, about politeness and appropriate behavior.

First of all, the dining room staff treated the kids like royalty, with all kinds of special perks--huge chocolate milks at their places each night, the head waiter came by every night and performed and taught them various puzzler-type tricks, and the staff went out of their way to develop a special rapport with the children--and this was My Time dining. (They saved the same large round table for us every night.)

We were a little worried about using the MDR with so many kids and only two adults--we did not want to be bothering others with noise or too much activity.

I thought the kids did pretty good, considering, but it was especially heartwarming that a lady, who had sat near us every night, came up on the last night and complimented us on the kids' behavior and said what a pleasure it was to see such nice and mannerly children.

It kind of made my cruise! And no, they were not perfect, but they did make us proud.

Very awesome! I would cruise with kids like that any day! They are lucky to have such great grandparents. :)

Several years ago we cruised on Celebrity with my friend who had recently become blind. Prior to the cruise she had had extensive rehab / training to learn daily living skills and had become very self-sufficient in her home and local surroundings, however, when she was in an unfamiliar setting she did need assistance. So the first night of the cruise when we went into the MDR I was quietly describing our surroundings and the the cutlery setup, glass placement, location of the bread basket etc. When the food came I told her where the food was located on her plate: meat at 9 o'clock, veggies at 6 o'clock and so on. Also, on this particular night she was having difficulty cutting up her meat so I just went ahead and cut it up for her. Quietly, no big deal. No one said anything, no one noticed and we enjoyed our meal. The next night when we came into the MDR our waiter Jason, greeted us and took my friends arm, escorted her to her chair and as he was putting the napkin in her lap he began to quietly whisper the location of everything on the table including who was sitting where. Later, as each food item was delivered he would describe the appearance of the food, color and consistency as well as the location of each food item: meat at nine o'clock etc. The best was that all the food came to her pre-cutup! We had no idea that even he had been paying attention to us that first night! As the week progressed, and he got to know us better, his sense of humor kicked in and he began to not only describe my friends food to her but to also give a description of what everyone at the table was eating. One night he described what my husband was eating as looking like "mush" and another night describing what our other friends were eating as "rabbit food" in addition to telling her who was putting too much salt on their food and who wasn't finishing their meal!

He was wonderful! He made my friend and all us so comfortable.

:D

That's a great story.. :)

All of these stories have me near tears - especially yours! You are so right, that uniform is amazing, jaw-dropping.

Thank you. We all have great memories of that cruise and want to do it all again. Of course, the oldest are turning 13 now, so that is another ball game. But, they are still great kids.

On our first cruise, my daughter was only 2, and she often sat on my lap during dinner and sometimes fell asleep. The waiter always offered to cut my meat for me when she was sleeping on my lap. One night I commented that the brownies on the kids menu were so good that I wanted them too, and the waiter brought me a whole plate of them to take back to my room.

On our honeymoon cruise in 2009, one friend gifted us the Ultimate Balcony Breakfast, which we enjoyed on a gorgeous sunny day in Tracy Arm. Another friend gifted us $100 OBC, which we used to buy formal portraits.

Leaving in 4 days and hoping for more good stories to tell...

any more stories?

on my second cruise, to bermuda, i got extremely sunburned. back in those days, no buffet for dinner, so i went to the dining room for dinner.

the waiter fussed over my burn, and recommended i use vinegar for the sting. he brought me a glass of red wine vinegar to take back to my cabin. i didn't use it, but that was so nice.

also people from my dinner table went ashore and harvested some real aloe leaves for me to use.

the cabin stewardess also checked on me a couple times the first day after the burn, and offered to change the sheets whenever i wanted, since i was using a cortisone cream from the doctor.

all the attention was very nice.

those where very nice gestures for you. next time use the vinegar. yes, it stings like heck when you first put it on, but it cures the pains of the burn. i used it all time when i was a kid and spent every day at our local lake all summer.
