chookie65 Posted January 6, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 6, 2012 How does the system work to get an upgrade? Do you have to know someone or have a good travel agent?
cherylandtk Posted January 6, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 6, 2012 It is slightly different on each cruise line, so it would help to know which one. And the TA almost always has nothing to do with it...
Rare Essiesmom Posted January 6, 2012 #3 Share Posted January 6, 2012 It's a matter of yield management software. It identifies what is not selling well, and what is selling...And those in the good selling cabins may be upgraded to those that are not selling well so they can resell the popular cabins. chookie65 Posted January 6, 2012 Author #4 Share Posted January 6, 2012 Thanks for the replies ..... The cruise line is Royal Caribbean departing Sydney to the south pacific in October this year. I have bought a junior suite and they are all sold out now and we are first time cruisers, myself and my daughters who are 18 and 14 and son who is 13 ... Hubby doesn't like cruising so he's staying home to look after the pets!!!
cherylandtk Posted January 7, 2012 #5 Share Posted January 7, 2012 You will find many theories over on the RCI board as to how upgrades work. The items with consensus seem to be how you mark your profile online (auto upgrade), if you are a new cruiser, perhaps if you are D+ with high points. Plus a few others that do not seem to have consensus. Most upgrades are not handed out until a few weeks before sailing. Plus you can often self-upgrade for a bargain price. Good luck.
