jmr1970 Posted January 16, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 16, 2012 We are going on a cruise from Galveston in March. We are flying in a day early and were going to stay at a hotel near the Houston airport (because they are a lot cheaper than Galveston hotels) but we have now decided to stay in Galveston We are trying to find a hotel under $200/nt. We have found the Baymont Inn & the Best Western Beachfront Inn. Are they in a good location? Are there restaurants close by as we'll have to eat dinner 1 night & don't have a vehicle. We also found the Four Points by Sheraton. Is it in a better location than the other 2 hotels?

Plan on staying there again in October. They have a nice breakfast...make your own waffles. Next door to a wonderful Mexican Restaurant and to grocery store. Within walking distance to Wal-Mart. AND across the street from the beach. Very easy to drive to and easy to get to the port. They may even be able to transport you to the pier. Always found them very nice. Good Luck!! Texaslandshark Posted January 16, 2012 #4 Share Posted January 16, 2012 Best Western has upped their rates for this year way beyond what they were last year or what they are worth. The positives has been mentioned above and I agree with what has been said. With, the exception that the Mexican restaurant, Tortugas (I recall), has the absolute weakest overpriced Margarita's anywhere I've been. Atmosphere is fine and the food works. Try the Holiday Inn Sun Spree Resort on the Seawall in case they have any rooms at this somewhat late date for your arrival. Good Luck!!

mnh Posted January 16, 2012 #6 Share Posted January 16, 2012 We are going on Spring Break and I was surprised at the room rates for most of the hotels. I finally decided on Moody Gardens (one of my favorites) and it was $229 on March 10th with no 2 night requirement (not too much higher than the least expensive ones where I would stay!....I travel alone with 2 young granddaughters so I am kind of picky! I cruised the 2nd week of December and the same room at Moody Gardens was $149.00!

rmiller Posted January 16, 2012 #8 Share Posted January 16, 2012 My husband and I vacationed in galveston a couple of years ago. I don't recall the name of the hotel, but it was right by the ferries. It was very small, but it was clean and the owners were very nice. It has the cutest little portholes for Windows overlooking the courtyard. It was just up the road from the cruise docks and close to dennys (we ate there a lot) the most we paid for a room was $100 for a Saturday night. The rest of the week was like $50/night. If I can think of the name ill get back to you.
KTBLUE Posted January 16, 2012 #9 Share Posted January 16, 2012 I always book hotels through hotwire.com. I got a room for the night before the cruise in Galveston at the Sheraton Four Points (4 person room) for $102 total with taxes & everything. There is a taxi/limo service in the area that charges $125 for the trip from Houston Bush airport for a taxi/car for up to four passengers. (That is $125 total, not per person). So, with that being said, you could score the hotel AND transportation for just a little over $200. Hope this helps.
KTBLUE Posted January 16, 2012 #10 Share Posted January 16, 2012 I also researched restaurants in the area and found that "Benno's on the Beach" had great reviews as far as price & good food go. It's not a fancy place, but features Cajun dishes which we'd like to try. It is about 3/4 mile from the Four Points and looks like a decent area along the beach with parks, restaurants and other hotels along the way. What day are you leaving? We set out on the 31st of March. Maybe we'll see you there!

munchkin4 Posted January 20, 2012 #13 Share Posted January 20, 2012 I just booked the Best Western Beachfront for $53 in October so the time of year definitely plays with the price. Spring break will be higher. We like it because of location. Benno's is very good for seafood. One of our favorites and it has outside picnic table seating. It isn't fancy but love it!! We also like Tortunga for Mexican food. The drinks we had were not weak/overpriced but very good as was the food. We have a tough time deciding where to eat if we just have one night!! That would be Red Carpet Inn. http://galveston.redcarpetinnhotels.com/ We are staying there next Wednesday before a cruise on Triumph, based mainly on good reviews on TripAdvisor etc. Will report back if there is anything negative about our experience. I will say it is an older property and not one I would have had the courage to book without the reassurances of guest reviews saying it was clean and in good condition. Yes that's it! We hadn't notified our bank before we went and therefore had issues with our bank card. The owners were very understanding and were more than happy to work with us on payment for the weekend until the bank open on Monday. We were also concerned about being right by the ferry, would it be difficult to get in and out, noise, etc. We loved hearing the ferries horns as they came and went we also rode the ferry several times just for the fun of it. In the day you see the dolphins swimming alongside and at night under the moonlight its just beautiful having the cool air blow through your air. Noise wasn't a problem nor was entering or leaving the parking lot. We felt safe and comfortable. Enjoy your stay. :D

Great...we just booked the Baymont for the night before our cruise. Oh well, it's only one night I guess. We booked it because it's supposed to be right by the Golden Corral which my kids think is awesome because of the chocolate fountain (gross...) snedecor Posted January 22, 2012 #18 Share Posted January 22, 2012 We're staying 2 nights at Comfort Inn and Suites Seawall, just across the street from Baymont. It's right by Tortugas. Entry is from internal hallway. Every room has a balcony. It has expanded continental breakfast, free wifi, indoor pool, laundry, and free cruise parking (no shuttle). Rooms are large, and some have jacuzzi tubs! It's a fairly small hotel, but it's rated #4 on tripadvisor. We've stayed in Econolodge before a cruise (low, low budget) and Hotel Galvez for anniversary (high, high price, but fancy). Comfort Inn met our needs this time... Good Luck! Go with Hilton It is one of best in Galveston! Lots of restaurants around! Hilton is excellent and better hotel! In great area! Within the San Luis Resort (one best hotels) common area and both owned and operated by Landry Hotels.... and with probable mutual benefits! Across the street from beach! Hampton is half block off beach area and rooms in front.... look out over Walmart! Rear rooms ? No othe benefits I am aware of? Not as good a site as Hilton!
