RenieRaider Posted April 14, 2005 #1 Share Posted April 14, 2005 We just returned from the Pride of Aloha's April 3rd sailing RT from Honolulu. I was looking forward to the Hawaiian music, the sound of the Hula Songs and the Ukuleles. I guess I had a preconcieved notion of "Hawaiian Music" but then I heard one song (or two) that just struck my heart. This Artist is MY Hawaiian Music memory from my trip. BEAUTIFUL! You too will hear his voice and the music will stay in your heart as well. Keali'i Reichel ~ Kawaipunahele CD. After seeing (and doing lol) the Hula and learning how the words of the songs make the dance ... I can 'see' the music dance in my mind. The song ... E Ho'i I Ka Pili will STICK with you. He sings it in Hawaiian but with his words you can 'see' a hula dancer dancing his words. E ho'i i ka pili Come here to me, E ku'u ipo My Darling Love, E nene'e mai, e nanea mai Cuddle close, E ke aloha relax my beloved, E ho'onipo kaua and let us make love. He lei wehi 'oe You are like a lei, No ku'u nui kino for me to wear. Lei 'ala ho'onaona lua i ka poli Incomparably fragrant E ke ahola Oh, my love, E hanu lipo kaua let us deeply kiss. Ka nehe a ke kai The sea at Kahakuloa O Kahakuloa rumbles on the rocks Kai ko'o haku'i pi'i i ka pali and splashes up the cliffs E ke ahola Oh, my love Pulupe iho kaua. we are drenched. Puana 'ia mai Let it be told E ku'u ipo my love, my darling E nene'e mai, e nanea mai Cuddle close E ke aloha relax my beloved, E ho'onipo kaua and let us make love. I miss Hawaii..... :-(
spleen93 Posted April 14, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 14, 2005 Keali'i Reichel is one of my favorite Hawaiian artists. He just performed as a singer for one of the halaus competing at the Merrie Monarch Festival (my favorite halau - Hula Halau 'O Kamuela) :) Spleen
bug_dan Posted April 14, 2005 #3 Share Posted April 14, 2005 RenieRaider, You can listen to Hawaiian Music on line at http://www.alohajoe.com also at Breeze of Hawaii, but I don't have their URL handy, Spleen can probably help with this. Incidentally Breeze of Hawaii was a great station to listen to while driving around Oahu.

pengu1n Posted April 16, 2005 #7 Share Posted April 16, 2005 When we were in Hawaii almost 10 years ago, I bought a CD by Keali'i Reichel called "Lei Hali'a" & it remains one of my favorites. Look forward to picking up another CD by him on our trip this summer.
Dushi Posted April 17, 2005 #8 Share Posted April 17, 2005 I have every Keali'i cd. We were fortunate enough to see him perform at Carnegie Hall in 1997 or 1998? Uluwehi Guerrero was one of his backup singers and we bought his CD "In My Heart" because of his mellow, yet haunting voice. I also like the female trio of "Na Leo". Great harmonies. The albums "I miss You, My Hawaii" and "A Pocketful of Paradise" are catchy. Israel "Izzy" Kamakawiwo'ole is a classic. We have the "In Dis Life" CD. We also have 2 CDs by "HAPA" when we just want to listen to guitars/uukulele music. We'll be visiting the islands again in July and look forward to adding to my hawaiian music collection. bug_dan Posted April 17, 2005 #9 Share Posted April 17, 2005 No need to wait to buy Hawaiian music CDs, DVDs etc. We usually use https://www.buyhawaiianmusic.com but there are numerous others. Just do a Google search for Hawaiian music You can also get lyrics and other info from the following site http://www.huapala.org/ Print out the lyrics and sing along in Hawaiian.
