Looking for a recommendation for a hotel in San Juan

We are going on Carnival Victory in June......Can anyone recommend a nice, not too expensive hotel in San Juan?

If you can get a good rate, there's a Sheraton right across the street from the port. It looked really nice.

If you want to stay in old San Juan in the middle of everything I recommend the Howard johnson's plaza de armas. Stayed there last year and really for one night the price and location couldn't be beat. The cab ride to the port was under $20 including tip. The room was $145 or so. If you need a window get a king suite otherwise you may be without. Also the cab stand is right outside of the hotel pick u

And go. :) I recommend La Bombanera for breakfast their mallorcas are awesome.

When I cruise from San Juan, I like staying at the Sheraton Old San Juan. Wake up in the morning and see the ship, check out of the hotel and walk across the street to board the ship!

When I fly to San Juan (I'm a pilot) and I stay in the Doubletree by Hilton San Juan or the Hotel El Convento. They both have great costumer service and are great values. The Hotel El Convento is much nicer but has a much better setting.

If your flight arrives late and you are not planning on exploring San Juan, you can always stay at the Best Western San Juan Airport. It's a fairly new hotel located right at the main terminal. No need for hotel shuttles. Just walk right from baggage claim to the hotel lobby. Then in the morning, you can just take a taxi cab to the pier. :)

We stayed at the DoubleTree. Easy walk to Ashford Ave and a great French bakery for breakfast. Across the street is a supermarket.

In the AM we took a cab to the pier and dropped off our luggage. Took another cab to Old San Juan and enjoyed the day walking around and seeing the forts, etc.

If you're into an untraditional stay, I'd recommend Posada San Francisco. It's right in the heart of OSJ and just a easy walk to the ship in the morning. It's a hostel with great hospitality. It was rated number one on trip advisor when I booked, and I think it's number 2 now. But either way, it's a great experience. Can't beat the awesome views from the balcony. I would recommend going with Priceline for the Isla Verde area - not sure what they have nowadays as far as zones, but I have routinely gotten excellent deals bidding on travel in San Juan. Just make sure the map covers the beaches or downtown so you don't end up in some obscure place.

We stay at the embassy suites by the airport. Pick up wine and whatever else at pueblo next door.. Casino in Lobby, free drinks at night, and yummy breakfast

I agree with this. Can't beat that view. Just check out the website and you will be sold.

I recommend the Hotel Milano. We have stayed there three times and right in the heart of Old San Juan

For the Sheraton OSJ, which type of room can I book in order to have a view of the ship?

 

Can i book just the traditional room? or do I have to pay the extra $$ to get the specific Bay view?

I agree we went out of San Juan and stayed at the Sheraton and it was great and convient.

The Condado Plaza Hotel is great! Beautiful, unique rooms. Casino and lots of evening gathering places. A little pricey but well worth the extra. About 15 minutes from port. Cab fares running about $7/person each way a couple of years ago.

 

The whole Condado area has a South Beach kinda feel.

Which ever hotel you do choose, be sure to check and see if the resort fees are included in the rate or not if you are staying in a hotel near the beach or at the OSJ Sheraton. We stayed at the Sheraton last year and got upgraded to a jr. suite which had a direct view of port and ship...this time (we are going back in Aug), we specifically asked for a jr. suite. There is also a small pool on the roof of the Sheraton...good enough, not spectacular. The city views from the pool deck are very nice.

 

Previous poster mentione Isla Verde...check trip advisor there are many hotels there. A Marriott in Isla Verda gets decent reviews..
