No, you don't do that. YOu will get instructions in your cabin a couple of days in advance along with new cruise cards. You and others like you, will meet on board after all others have left, you will be escorted thru US officials and then do a U-turn and head back on the ship before everyone else, and activate your new cruise cards.

 

All very easy.

However, if you would prefer to tour that day, either on a ship's tour or on your own, you can do so.

 

Just take your passport with you so you can clear immigration (no need to fill out a customs form as you are considered "in transit" and will have a card that says so).

 

You can return to the ship (usuing your new cruise card) anytime after it has been cleared of all disembarking passengers, normally around 10 AM.
