chris2597 Posted February 10, 2012 #1 Share Posted February 10, 2012 We used a car service a few years ago when debarking from an AK cruise. We were very happy with the service but I can't remember the name of the company.. Any suggestions for a good car service?

langrela Posted February 15, 2012 #4 Share Posted February 15, 2012 Is a towncar more convenient/easier to get than a cab? Are the fares similar? I imagine the towncar would be a little more....
CruiserBruce Posted February 15, 2012 #5 Share Posted February 15, 2012 The fares have been almost the same. The town car is bigger, more comfortable, larger trunk. You will do fine with a cab, but better with a town car. Last I heard the difference in fares was $5.

mapleleaves Posted February 15, 2012 #7 Share Posted February 15, 2012 Is a towncar more convenient/easier to get than a cab? Are the fares similar? I imagine the towncar would be a little more.... The towncar is more convenient in that they pick you up at the curb by baggage claim. You call Stila towncar from the courtesy phone when you have your luggage, tell them the number of the closest exit door, then they drive down from the garage. The taxis are in the garage and you walk about the equivalent of a block; up the escalator/elevator and across the skybridge. Yellow Cab and Stila towncar are both stationed at the airport. Their phone numbers are in the Port's web site. http://www.portseattle.org/Sea-Tac/Parking-and-Transportation/Ground-Transportation/Pages/Taxis-and-Limos.aspx
Vanilla Posted February 15, 2012 #8 Share Posted February 15, 2012 What about drop off to the airport upon return from the cruise. Do taxis/towne cars/Princess shuttle drop you off right at the gate or at another destination that you have to tote your luggage a long distance? mapleleaves Posted February 16, 2012 #9 Share Posted February 16, 2012 taxis and towncars drop off on Departures Drive at whichever airline you're using. There's an area set up for cruise buses at the end of the terminal (at the far left on this map). That's where they load so I assume unload too. http://www.portseattle.org/Sea-Tac/Maps-and-Directions/Pages/Ground-Transportation.aspx
Dan G Posted February 16, 2012 #10 Share Posted February 16, 2012 just remember that its illegal for towncar drivers to solicit fares. You will find some that will and I'd be wary. You have to arrange for a towncar before you get off the ship. Seattle has been trying to control the towncars due to many problems however since the state was issuing the licenses they were in charge of enforcement. That was scheduled to change this yr, but just be aware that some drivers were quite aggressive in their tactics. They grab your luggage and ask "taxi' but they aren't a taxi. You need to check in, check baggage, go thru security. They will drop at the Terminal your airline operates out of. You shouldn't have to walk with luggage more than about a block. You might have to walk a couple of blocks with your carry on to your gate.
Dan G Posted February 16, 2012 #12 Share Posted February 16, 2012 Drop offs can occur at the terminals which are the closest to your airline. In contrast the only place to pick up from the airport is either at one end of baggage claim or in the parking garage. Dropping off will be much closer than the pickup points at Seatac.
