Your favorite "dance/rock bands" and where are they now?"

I really miss all the Filipino Bands...many of them were from the same talent agency and had the word "music" in their name ...Blood Power may be one of the last left...

It is sad that the larger, newer ships with the 2.0 upgrades have the worst entertainment

I am thinking about trying Freedom again before she gets the 2.0

Yeah I like burgers but the shows and the music are more important to me

DJ and the awful Playlist "shows" don't thrill me at all

The downward trend in entertainment is about to drive us away from Carnival. Have one booked on Glory and than we do our first Princess.

I was just on the Magic last week, and the cover band Retroapect was there. I'm guessing it was an addition since they weren't on board when I cruised on the Magic back in May.

Based on this experience, the idea that they are getting rid of cover bands is false. If anything they are adding them to ships that didn't have them.

  • 1 year later...
After 20 Carnival cruises Blood Power is the best we have seen! If I could cruise with them again I would in a minute. Sadly we are on the West Coast and they aren't...:(

Anyone know wherever they are now. Great time in the club when they played.

On the Pride relocation cruise Carnival had put together a six member rock band including two lead singers guy and a girl.

They were just learning to play with each other, beginning of cruise couldnt hear the girl over the music but later on they were very good.

Apparently this will be a trend.

Absolutely right!!

First, they have cheap sound equipment, no sound engineer.

...Anyone involved with bands know there's more to it then assigning "good" muscians together and calling it a "band"....

There's limited repertoire, playing the songs 100's of times, personal connection with the crowd, that love playing songs together, etc.

Try asking them to do a song, and they all begin flipping the pages in their books, looking at each other as if to say, "Can you do this one?"

Instead of providing experienced cover bands, aiming for excellence, Carnival is just filling a spot with staff that have a lot of other duties.

Sadly, the great Manilla bands (like Blood Power) and others like Blackjack are a endangered species, close to extinction:mad:.

They also are wonderful people and provide for their families and have zero job security.

Let's hope they land on another cruise line that actually pursues excellence!!

Hopefully they will keep them together. Interesting that quite a few crew members would go to red frog pub at night to listen to them.

Most of my favorite rock bands are in the cemetery.

I don't miss the Filipino bands. That was getting old, too. It was overdue for a change.

It was nice when they did it in a lounge and played lots of classic rock. Lately they play accross from casino and way to crowded and noisy to listen and not much of a place to dance.

I used to enjoy sitting and listening to them in the lounges. More and more they started to play songs for people to dance to... that's when we'd find something else to do. I would have likely saved some $ (less casino time) if they'd stuck to classic rock!
