Norway cruise

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have recommendations or even know of a nice cruiseline that does Norway? My ideal would be a 7-10 day cruise that hits the most beautiful places and is a very comfortable ship. Unfortunately, the older I get, the more luxury I want. My days of youth hostel trips are over. I have looked at many cruiseline's itineraries and haven't found any that seem to just do Norway.

I had been considering a cruise or a land tour with some short cruises included, but decided the cruise would be more relaxing.

Any ideas and input would be greatly appreciated! I like to hear from people who've had the actual experience, not my travel agent who would just look something up in her book.

Thanks,

Sherry

if you want luxury i strongly suggest seabourn. not only will they cater to your every whim, the ships are small enough to go where larger ones cannot, a benefit which is important when sailing thru the fjords. i have not as yet done this itinerary on seabourn but am booked for july 31. the cruise is 14 days from london to london (tower of london, not southhampton)and sails to oslo, bergen, all thru the fjords (flaam, ulvik, eidfjord) plus copenhagen and amsterdam. if you are looking for 2006 they may have shorter itineraries. on seabourn everything is included in the price of your ticket including all tips, alcohol etc. chceck it out on their website seabourn.com. while youre at it you might want to check out silversea as well.

This is an old old cruise line that used to ship cargo up Norway's coast. It also works as a cruise of only the Norwegian cruise, and you would get the completely Norwegian experience doing this. I think it is nice, but probably not luxury.

I traveled on this route on these ships when I worked as a tour guide in the late 70's. I only went for a small portion. It's very genuine. Check out the link and you will know what I mean. Also, if intrested, google for Hurtigruten and read the other posts.

We did the Hurtigruten (aka Norwegian Coastal Voyage) a couple of summers ago. We went on the Midnatsol in July. Its maiden voyage had been in April of the same year. We had one of the aft balcony rooms. It went from Bergen to Kirkenes. It was the most fantastic trip we've ever been on. We plan to do it again. We did do some touring before and after the cruise. Let me know if you want more specifics. It does not have shows. For us, the scenery was the show.

Sherry,

I was just browsing some luxury cruise lines' 2006 itineraries, looking for a Norwegion fjord cruise, but can't find any! It looks like there won't be many of them going there next year. (I checked Radisson, SilverSea, HAL, Oceania and Crystal. I didn't check Seaborne.) I wonder why.

Anyone know why there won't be any or many fjord cruises in 2006? Just curious.

It is so disappointing to see this, when there were so many offerings over the last couple of years. I guess we will plan something else!!

Sherry - Here's the address for Norwegian Coastal Voyages of their newest ships. The site has info on various trips both escorted and unescorted. We're doing the 17 day Grand Norway on 17 May, 2005. We couldnt find any "traditional" cruise lines doing just Norway, so we went with this one. Looking at pictures of the ship, it still looks very modern and comfortable. The cabins look small, but with as much daylight there will be, we will not be in the cabin very much. We want to see as much as possible. Marlyne has given us some good info already and we'll post a review when we get back along with pics on webshots.

We're really looking forward to this trip.

There is a cruiseline P&O they are wonderful top line 5* cruiseline. We went in 2002 and the service was amazing and food was the best I have ever had on a cruise still. I have traveled a ton and have done everything from Carnival Liberty to Celebrity to P&O and I have to saw that P&O is my favorite.:)
