Carnival Liberty Leap Year Review (2/25 - 3/3)

I hope so too. I was thinking what about the shipmoving. I go to shoot and all the balls start rolling around. :D

Haha I know! I had the same thought, especially on the Pride that has Pool Tables in the casino now as well. Not sure if they are adding these when a ship goes to drydock? I know the Pride didn't have them in 2009 or 2010, but did after her drydock in 2011. I'd imagine the balls would be rolling around a lot more on ships out in the Atlantic like the Pride though!

That's one thing we noticed (and may talk about again) - after traveling on the Pride 3x (during the tail end of hurricane season) we barely felt any sway on the Liberty! We must have earned our "sea legs" the hard way :D

Yea! It is a Chris and Cass review! Can not wait to read/see more!

Hi Jen!!!! Hopefully we will entice you into trying out the Liberty in April 2013 :p

We'll be back tomorrow with more tales from our Leap-Year Birthday Extravaganza! Stay tuned - it's not often my love gets a "real" birthday (Feb 29th! - Isla Roatan) so I made sure this was one he'd never forget (or only be able to remember from the pictures) :D

Awesome review, love the pics. Did you have breakfast at the burrito bar and/ or snap some pics of the huevos rancheros or arepas? I haven't seen them yet and am really looking forward to groggily shuffling out of my lido balcony room & grabbing a bloody mary and mexican breakfast every day!

Great review, love it so far. We sailed Liberty last April to western caribbean and LOVED it! We sail on her again in 11 DAYS! So very excited to see half moon cay and the eastern islands, and all the great upgrades on Liberty. And pool tables in the casino!!!! Nice!

Look forward to more of your review.

Melanie

At the end of this hall on the right was one of the dance clubs, Hot and Cold. Chris doesn't dance so this was the only time I stepped inside.

That will change in November on the Breeze! :D

Hi All!! Thank you so much to all for the wonderful comments - we love doing these reviews - it's like an online scrapbook to use to go back and remember everything! Granted we don't have super-duper SLR pictures, but hopefully our amazing charm and wit will even it out ;)

Hi Crewsweeper!! I wanted to tell you now in case we forget by the time we get to the gym pics - we didn't get a picture of it, but I'm 99.9% certain they have one of your rower machines - Concept 2 I think? It's in front of the ellipticals next to the wipe-down towel racks!

Also, for our Breezer friends that asked about smoking on the ship - as Chris alluded to earlier, we are non-smokers, but I did take note that almost the entire starboard outdoor side up on deck 10 where all the deck chairs are (above the new bars) allowed smoking, as did the one side of the Casino Bar (and a large section of the casino as well)

Thanks for checking for me Cass, guess that means I can complete the Challenge:( (but more room for Guys Burgers:D)...And thanks for coming out on the boards after a hard first day back at work. Looking forward to the rest of the review( DW loves the ship pics) and meeting you guys in the flesh on the Breeze! Sounds like the Jazz bar is a smoking bar too. And Chris, I'll swap Markov for Kaner in a fantasy league (or maybe the real thing as the "Habs" need a real boost:p).

We almost always got room service on this cruise since we had a lot of early port of calls. Our friends said they went there once for breakfast early in the cruise......and then every day afterwards because it was so good. I always try to do a light breakfast since I eat so bad the rest of the day :o

That will change in November on the Breeze! :D

Good luck with that ;)

The pool table has self adjusting, stablizing legs, so you can't blame the table for an errant shot, maybe the Red Frog, but not the table.....lol

OK, I'm fighting a cold and my work's horribly slow internet so be patient :o.

After our delicious burger and 2nd drink we decided to grab a water and see if we could find a spot on the Serenity deck to relax until the rooms were ready (I know what you're thinking.....good luck:rolleyes:). Not sure how it happened but there was an empty clamshell and jumped right in it.

It was a little overcast which was kind of nice since we didn't remember to put sunscreen on and it was in our checked luggage.

Here are a couple shots from our spot

We hated to give up our prime spot but we were anxious to check out our cabin so around 2 we headed down. As I stated before we were in stateroom 7410 which is a regular balcony just beyond the aft elevators. As I opened the door I was greeted with a surprise.

Yeah, the brat got me Bon Voyage decorations.

Besides that the room was pretty standard for a regular balcony. We got spoiled on the Pride with the extended balcony but this was still pretty nice. Really liked the new flat screen tv's with the swivel base too.

A couple shots of the bathroom for the ladies

A very small but great addition to the shower was the little corner shelf.

Captain Red Frog can be very persuasive! lol!

Is that what you call your drink Chris, the Captain and Red Frog together? I will have to try one!

It's called the Red's Beer Coctail. Though I don't know if Red Frog needs anything else to make it taste good.

Just wait til I get to the pictures of Wednesday and the Mexican Fiesta

As we were about to leave our room, our luggage was delivered and we got to meet our room steward, Antony. He was a great guy greeted us by name everytime we saw him. We figured we'd unpack to get that out of the way and do some more exploring. We had two things we wanted to find the first day, the coin, and the secret forward area on deck 9.

The secret area was easy enough to find, just through the rooms on deck 9.

There was also a set of stairs that led up to a smaller area on deck 10

We headed back to the Aft area to search for the coin and they were closing the aft pool roof. Not 100% sure why since it was cloudy but not raining at all.

birthdaycruise106.jpg

We went inside deck 10 to the upper area of Emile's (the Lido buffet). Up here is the Fish N' Chips as well as some pretty secluded seating.

From here we made our way all the way forward to check out the Venentian Palace (main stage)

By this time it was a little after 3:30 and they started calling people to their muster stations for safety briefing. I was really hoping this would be handled different since our last cruise. I was half right. The crew was much more serious about this but there were still the few bad apples who came stumbling in 15 minutes late and wouldn't shut up. We had to walk the entire length of the ship so we were not in the first two rows and still ended up waiting about 15-20 minutes. After they got the drunk annoying woman to finally shut up for 5 minutes they proceeded with the briefing. IMHO all it was was someone showing you how to put a life vest on and telling us to meet in this area. I won't elaborate on my opinion of this or the people who are too rude to show up on time or be quiet for 5 minutes. We're here to have fun right?

After finally being dismissed we were both ready for another drink and headed up to deck 10 aft for sail away. I really wanted a whale tail cup but never ran into a server that had one. Oh well, settled for another DOD. We were the first to pull out but we had to make a U-Turn near American Airlines Arena so a couple other ships got out of there before we did.

A cool little pirate ship (assuming this was a booze cruise)

I'll spare you all the 50 or so pictures we took of the sail away (it really is much nicer than pulling out of Baltimore :o) put here are a couple of South Beach.

Sail away took quite a while since we had to turn around and it was starting to get a little chilly so we figured it was time to head down and grab some dinner. But look what we found.....

birthdaycruise143.jpg

Time for lunch and to get a little work done :o. I'll be back with our first night's dining experience.............
