I'm surprised! The article about him from the Washington post (link is a few posts above) is very positive.

 

This is her assessment:

ENTERTAINMENT AND ACTIVITIES

Our Cruise Director was Ricky Matthews. I tried to like him. I really did. But…I thought he was the worst CD we’ve ever had. BUT – other people liked him, so don’t be discouraged if you’re reading this and you think your cruise will be ruined now because I didn’t like the CD. I just thought his humor (what little of it there was) was negatively geared towards the passengers…and your passengers are your paying customers. In other words, if I’m hosting a party – I’m not going to make fun of my guests. I hope that makes sense. I also thought the activities offered were few and far between.

Thanks for sharing. The CDs don't make or break my cruise, and with a port intensive trip not sure I'll be able to stay up for the shows anyway

 

If you go on a cruise for the CD - you may as well stay home.

 

There are good CDs;there a fair CDs and their are BAD CDs BUT there are also many VERYVERY GOOD CDs.

 

They are like family - you can not pick them - you are stuck with them, not for life but for the duration of the cruise.

 

 

Enjoy the cruise and don't worry about the Cruise Director

Adventure OTS - Abel Jeney started on July 14 for 4 months. (end date?)

 

Allure OTS - Ken Rush started June 10th until Sept 2, then Allan Brooks will be on from Sept 2 to Nov 4. Ken Rush expects to return after his break on Nov 4

 

Brilliance OTS - Anna Bass started July 27 (until when?)

 

Enchantment OTS - John Blair started on July 12. (until when?)

 

Explorer OTS - = Richard Spacey started July 19 until November 24.

 

Freedom OTS - Drew Devine started July 29th. Graham Seymour is returning September 30 through February 3rd, then he's returning again April 7 through July 28. After that, Graham's 3 years on FR is up, and he requested a smaller ship to Alaska or New Zealand, for a change of scenery, but things can change quite quickly or not at all...ship's life (See Graham's thread: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1676462)

 

Grandeur OTS - Luke Aerowsmith until September 14th, then Rich Edwards until Nov 7

 

Independence OTS - Joff Eaton started on June 16 thru October (exact end date?) (for feedback on Joff: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1679948)

 

Jewel OTS - Leigh Xuereb is covering until Sept 16. Dennis Charles (Dennis Sciortino) will be back in Boston on Sept 16 after TA.

Liberty OTS - Leo Papa started mid-July until Nov 10

I would say from your into that Ricky is on Serenade until 10-6 when he goes back to OA.

LOL - yes, but he'd be on Serenade 3.5 months by then, so it's not clear if he'd go straight to Oasis for a few more months to cover Amy's break (making for a 6 month contract), or if he'd take a short break in between and then stay on OA longer than just 6-8 weeks.

Bobby is arriving here on RD on the 31st as I always believed. There is no CD pass off time. He will board as Paul departs on Friday in Vancouver.

Any info on who will be on Liberty in late November? I read that the previous CD was well-liked (James Andrews). Thanks!

 

Don't know yet, but it seems logical that James will be returning to Liberty after his break.

My 4th cruise with RCCL will start in a month - this time on Mariner, but we get Mercedes Fuentes again! It is 3 cruises out of 4! Not big fan of her and I was very much hoping for someone else..

I am just making a guess here: Do your cruises usually start in Barcelona? Or, do many of the itineraries for that ship have a lot of ports in Spain? She's naturally going to be assigned to that route because of the high percentage of Spanish passengers onboard.
