In GC for 4 hours - What to do?

We will be in GC for a short afternoon stop (11:30-4:30). This is our 1st time to the island. I was thinking... turtle farm and a quick beach stop? Should we consider something else? We have older kids (16, 20 & 21).

Thanks for any advice!

I don't think you'll have much beach time if you do the turtle farm....I'd choose one or the other! And remember, traffic heading back to the ship can get crazy in the afternoon....only one road! Keep an eye on it!!!

just do a little DIY snorkeling at Eden Rock then grab a local libation and some conch fritters. Stick your head in a shop or two and you'll have done plenty. Skip the turtle farm.

My last trip with three along 19, 22 and 23, we grabbed a cab and slid down to Sunset House (1 mile south of tender landing) - did a little snorkel and libated at My Bar, then went back to the ship. Never saw another pass' until we got out of the cab on the way back.

About an 8 to 10 minute walk to the right from the tender pier is the Paradise restaurant. You can enter the water via their ladder (into about 3 feet of water). Last week we were greeted by a small school of Tarpon as we entered the water. Lots of reef fish there and also saw a small cuda. Snorkeling is free if you have your own gear. Otherwise I believe they rent the gear (as does Eden Rock which is about 100 feet from the Paradise. We snorkeled at several ports during our cruise and this was the best (and free). Be advised that the restaurant prices are in GC dollars (add about 25% to get U.S.dollar prices).

They rent chairs (no shade however) for $5 each.

Have fun.

Sunset House isn't a beach, it's a dive resort with a seaside bar. It's about 10 minutes from Eden Rock by taxi, in the opposite direction as Seven Mile Beach (Royal Palms, Sea Grape, Tiki Beach).

Generally any of the places will let you use their stairs for free to get into or out of the water, but using their other facilities (chairs, restrooms, etc.) will be for "patrons" only, meaning you usually have to buy lunch or drinks.

TRUE - but let me paint the same picture in water colors:

water access in Cayman is free, if there is an open path to the water, you can jump in. At Sunset House, Eden Rock or many other places you can walk to the water and use their facility and in my experience they are ALL happy to have you. Should you like to rent equipment :D

IME Sunset House does not sell a 'day pass' BUT if you sit (and buy) at their very popular bar/rest' area and ask "can I use the pool?" The answer is: yes.

Do they stop you from using the potty?

Sitting in this chair vs that chair .... never seen it and I've been a patron of Sunset House since the mid 80's with last visit - a year and too long ago.
