Optional Dining for Formal nights

We have been on several cruises in the past, but have our first Celebrity cruise booked on the Solstice for next April. We typically enjoy dressing up for formal nights, however this cruise is preceded by a two month holiday in Thailand, so we have been discussing lately the packing challenges of combining a two month beach escape with a 17 day cruise and have been pondering the idea of foregoing the formal wear for the cruise to simplify things. A few answers/opinions would be helpful in this discussion:

 

1. How many formal nights can we expect on a 17 day cruise?

2. What dining venue choices would we have on the Solstice on those nights that would not require formal wear?

3. On formal nights is it possible to order from the MDR menu for delivery to your stateroom?

1. How many? 3 Formal Nights.

2. Non-Formal options? All the Specialty restaurants are casual every night. As is BLU which is the standard dining for Aqua Class. You also have the Buffet.

3. Ordering from MDR menu? Yes, you can order from the MDR menu and have it in your SR/Balcony.

 

What a great sounding vacation! Thialand should be fantastic, then a good long cruise of Asia. What a grand time you'll have.

If you decide not to dress for a formal night and eat at the buffet, do you still have to follow the dress code of the night?

Also, if its a formal night, I know you have to dress formally for dinner and the show in the theater but can you change more casually for the rest of the night?

What about renting your formal wear from the ship? Some ship's offer this service and even have woman's gowns available.

Celebrity changed their dress codes a few years. Formal night is only observed in the Main Dining Room, you do not have to dress formally anywhere else on the ship including the theater. They do request smart casual in the theater. The lounges, casino, bars, etc are pretty much anything goes except bathing suits.

 

There will also be some private functions that require a certain mode of dress.

 

Also, to the OP, dinner is availabe from room service every night in every cabin.

 

Finally, here is info on the tuxes availabe, I have never heard of Celebrity renting gowns but then I have never worn one.

I haven't been on Celebrity for about 5 yrs, I remember after 6 p.m. you always had to be dressed up.

We are doing the formal nights, just wondered if you have to stay dressed up all evening or what to wear if you do the buffet.

I answered your questions in my previous post but here goes again.

 

The requirement to dress for the evening after 6:00P.M. was eliminated about three years ago. The only place that the formal dress is required is in the MDR, no where else on the ship. If you wish to change after dinner you may certainly do so.

 

If you wish to eat in the buffet you will find a wide range of clothes from people dressed formally to bathing suits.

No they are not. They do not have an after 6 rule anymore, it was eliminated. You can wear anything in the rest of the ship..

 

Jeans are also allowed in the dining room on smart casual nights.

Just so you are aware, the buffet is not a full buffet as you will get on RCCL or you will get on Celebrity for lunch or breakfast. There is plenty of food but it is mostly stations such as Pizza, sushi, etc.

Not true; we were denied entry to the theater on a recent Summit cruise: there are formal MDR evenings despite being Aqua Class passengers on the Summit--and being dressed "smart casual" where "smart casual only" is required. We were sent upstairs to the "gods." If anyone remembers that term from old cinema days?

Everything I stated in the post you quoted is absolutely correct. Celebrity only requires "smart casual" in the theater, I stated that in my first post in this thread. I just didn't want to repeat the whole thing for the third time. Formal is only required in the MDR on formal evenings, no where else. Below is Celebrity's dress code, please note the last sentence where it says they request smart casual in the theater every night.

well, may be as you say, we were still booted upstairs. We had jackets on, French cuff shirts and no ties. No ties was the dealbreaker, obviously, even though we were allowed to dine in Blu without them...

On formal nights, that is not within the dress code, surprised in reality that this happened as they haven't fully enforced the dress code in a couple of years.

And as an FYI, the buffet really doesn't change much at all from night to night, so you may want to consider a night in a specialty restaurant. Bistro on 5 is only $5, for instance

The buffets are pretty much the same on all the ships, there was a press release a couple of years ago, I'll try and find it.

 

Also, make sure you do get into the dining room on Century, IMHO the most beautiful dining room of all the Celebrity ships with all the wood.

Oh, yes, we'll make sure to visit the MDR at least once! ;) I saw some pix in another post from someone and the ship looks beautiful and in great shape for her age! I'm really looking forward to trying X! :)
