Rare chasinraynbowz Posted April 27, 2012 #1 Share Posted April 27, 2012 My DH and I headed downtown tonight to see the American Queen. Here are some of the pictures that I took. They are still building the Beale Street Landing where she will be docking, so excuse all the mess!!!
rubysue Posted April 27, 2012 #2 Share Posted April 27, 2012 Thanks for posting! Although the new Beale Street Landing is still a work-in-progress, it certainly beats boarding the vessel on Mud Island, which we did in 2004 on the Delta Queen. Rare chasinraynbowz Posted April 28, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted April 28, 2012 Once Beale Street Landing is done, it will be very nice. There will be shops and at least one restaurant. I think I read somewhere that it will be another year before it opens.
tommui987 Posted April 28, 2012 #4 Share Posted April 28, 2012 Once Beale Street Landing is done, it will be very nice. Is the landing handicap-accessable? Looks like a lot of stairs or ramps to traverse from the top to the landing below. Hope there is an elevator!

Hope there is an elevator! Yes, I think it will be handicap-accessable. If you look close at one of the pictures, there are golf type carts near the ship. They drive up the round swirly thing (lol, sorry... not sure what else to call it).
rubysue Posted April 29, 2012 #6 Share Posted April 29, 2012 I realized, after reading about the christening yesterday by Priscilla Presley, that the Beale Street Landing will be capable of loading passengers with changes in the river level of +/- 50 feet, which explains the multi-level structure. So in flood stages, passengers likely use the upper decks (I guess that's a big duh!). Very nice!

We were down there last year during the horrible floods and got some great pictures. Riverside Drive at Beale Street was under water. Mud Island was also under water. It was really incredible to see, yet very sad because of all the devistation. I am glad they thought about the flooding. I wonder if the ship will be able to get under the bridges during bad flooding??
