Closest beach to port?

I'll be in Nassau for a couple hours and not planning on going too far out of the way. Which beach is closer to the dock? Is it free or is there a fee?

Is there a beach anywhere along Bay Street that is free? The furthest we are going is the Ardastra zoo and gardens

Thanks!

We were in Nassau last week on the Carnival Miracle. We had been to Cabbage Beach and found it too rough. So this time, we took scubagirrl's advice (Thanks Scubagirrl) and walked to Jankanoo Beach. It's a short 10-15 minute walk from the pier.

Junkanoo beach is just outside of town, about 15 minute walk, or a quick cab or jitney ride. #10 Jitney is $1.25 pp. It's in calm waters, crystal clear and turquoise. There are concession stands, restrooms, chair rentals, hair braiding and even local music. No lifeguards.

From Scubagirrl - Junkanoo is easy to get to .. just follow the wharf to senor frogs, follow the sidewalk to the left and go around the front of the Hilton.. follow the sidewalk to Junkanoo beach.. it's just on the other side of the hilton property.

My note: You can also go up one block from the pier and walk along Bay St. to get to Junkanoo Beach. Also I would recommend wearing water shoes. There is some glass on the beach and near the water's edge. Beach is beautiful and it's FREE!
