Just curious....

How many rooms does a cabin steward attend to? We hardly saw ours on our last cruise, but he certainly did his job. We would be absent from the room for 20 minutes to come back to find he had done something. I know it's their job to keep on top of it like that but it still amazes me. I was just wondering how many cabins they typically take care of at once. I can't imagine it's many as it would be tough to keep on top it is as well as they do.

i don't know for sure, but the steward has a few helpers that work with him. but yes the cabins are broken up into sections with a steward and one or two helpers assigned to each section. what i did learn on the befind the scenes tour last year that the stewards are ranked and get the best rooms. they put the best of the best on the suites and so on. they all are great but some stewards are better then others. on my cruise last year our stward was awesome. he would always stop by and chat and see if we needed anything. he knew our names (family of 4) and really did a great job. he had a little girl back home and my DD then was 2 so it probably reminded him of her.

I have asked this question to our room steward on our last two cruises.

On the Miracle (Nov. 2011) our steward had 24 rooms he was responsible for.

On the Freedom (March 2012) our steward had 27 rooms he was responsible for.

All rooms are inspected by there supervisor when complete. The reason I know this is, I have come back to our room for more casino cash (more then once :D) and found the supervisor in the room with the steward standing at the doorway. The supervisor told him the pillows needed to be changed.

They have implemented a 3 man team with the cabin stewards as well....the head cabin steward will have one assistant in the morning and a different assistant at night.

Carnival won't tell you how many cabins they pull, because that is private information....but I can tell you that it is closer to the 27 ...than 12.

The cabin stewards (that I have spoken with) are not pleased with the 3 man system here either.

This info was never given to us on the tour and I personally never had better service in a suite than I have received on Rivera deck

I highly doubt this. I had a suite last cruise and honestly, the steward from my first cruise with an inside was infinitely more organized, much friendlier and even more stealth than the guy from my last one. If they really give the suites to the "best" stewards, they missed the mark on the Fascination.

It depends on the stewards on whether they have 1 or 2 assistants.

I think it depends on the class of ship as to how many cabins a team has.

All I know is that they do a fantastic job. I wouldn't want to clean 12-27 bathrooms, make 24-54 beds, towel animals, ice, etc every day- usually at least 2 x per day. They deserve all the gratuities they get & then some.
