slvrbabi Posted May 11, 2012 #1 Share Posted May 11, 2012 Visiting Barbados for the first time - and newbee to cruising- and decided that DH and I are probably just gonna take a nice walk on the Boardwalk (he loves photography so thought this would get him a nice opportunity to take pics) then check out Accra Beach and Carlisle Beach. Question - what is the best way to do this? Where should we start from the cruise port? I've tried to read through past posts but haven't found my answer. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Aplmac Posted May 12, 2012 #2 Share Posted May 12, 2012 Two easiest places to access the South Coast Boardwalk are.. 1) The Western end of Rockley Beach (a.k.a. "Accra" to us locals) ...and.. 2) Hastings Rocks, which is a bit closer to the Port than is Rockley. Probably best to get to Rockley/Accra because you can then enjoy both the Boardwalk and Rockley Beach and make a proper day of it. Your taxi driver will know both places by name.. Rockley Beach and Hasting Rocks, near the bandstand there ..tell him Don't mention Accra because you might end up at the hotel by that name, on Rockley Beach. . mbw1024 Posted May 18, 2012 #4 Share Posted May 18, 2012 What does this "boardwalk" refer to?
critcatny Posted May 18, 2012 #5 Share Posted May 18, 2012 Is the boardwalk and Rockley/Accra Beach closer to walk to from port than say the Boatyard or Lobsters Alive? We were going to walk to Carlisle Beach (heard it's only about a 1/2 hr walk from the ship).
Aplmac Posted May 18, 2012 #6 Share Posted May 18, 2012 Is the boardwalk and Rockley/Accra Beach closer to walk to from port.. than say the Boatyard or Lobsters Alive? ===> No. quite the opposite. We were going to walk to Carlisle Beach (heard it's only about a 1/2 hr walk from the ship). ===> Correct. Carlisle Bay is indeed about 1/2 hr. walk from the Portbut the South Coast Boardwalk is that distance again beyond the far end of Carlisle Bay, as you would see it. Best to taxi it out to Rockley Beach and catch the Boardwalk from that end perhaps walking your way back to the ship over the course of your day. That would not be impossible for healthy folks with no mobility issues. Hilton would be your halfway point on such a journey. This satellite image shows the Port at top left, Carlisle Bay (white sand) curving around towards Hilton hotel on the point at the bottom with Hilton being at the extreme Western end of the South Coast. Although not shown Rockley Beach and the Boardwalk would be way off the photo to the bottom right .
