You can smoke on the lido until the 2.0 upgrades take effect which looks like 2014 for Valor

2.0 brings the new food options to lido so then you won't be able to smoke there

that's to bad you got the wrong info for the Liberty... I on the other hand new it had went into dry dock hence the reason we booked on the Glory for our Jan 2012 cruise... now since the Glory is going into dry dock Nov 2012 we won't sail on her again... so that only leaves the Valor and Freedom I believe who dry dock in 2014... so I won't be sailing at all soon which makes me sad... and a balcony is out of the question cuz we could never afford it... and I have no plans on going up to deck 10 all the way forward each time I or my hubby want to have a cig... that's no vaca!

At $10 a pack and 365 days a year you would have $3650 for a suite if you quit smoking. Just sayin.:p

Thank you for remembering to respond! That was so nice of you. I hope you had a fabulous trip and can't wait to read your review!

This was very useful information - we actually just upgraded to a balcony (guarenteed? Makes me a bit nervous) so that we could relax and have a smoke on the balcony without breaking any rules. We've never had a balcony before and am anxious to see if we use it as much as I think/hope we will. Normally we like to be on the Lido people watching.

I am surprised at the no smoking policy before the Muster - seems like an odd policy. How about on your balcony during that time? Guess we won't be in a great rush to get there early this time.

Looking forward to your review, thanks again!!!

The no smoking before muster is due to the refueling process going on. I've run into that several times now. Also the last morning. Prior to muster, we were told to use the indoor lounge only.

If you have a balcony cabin on the Lido you are still able to smoke on your balcony regardless if it is Starboard or Port is that correct. What does the new restaurants have to do with smoking? I am just wondering..... will it make the food taste different or something?

At this point, smoking is allowed on your private balcony regardless of what deck or what side of the ship you are on. The only time this is not true is if you are booked in one of the "Spa Balconies" which are only on certain ships and located in a certain area. The Liberty (which has the 2.0) does not have Spa Cabins. On the ships where these are available they are classified as Spa Cabins and usually cost more than a "regular" cabin as they come with some Cloud 9 Spa perks.

Carnival has had a "no smoking" in the restaurants policy for a long time. I am thinking that these venues constitute "restaurant" and this is why the policy changed. Interesting point though because there was always a grill on the Starboard side before the changes and you were able to smoke at the tables right by that. However, from photos I have seen the new venues are more "al fresco style" restaurants then the grill line was.

But even when I ask here in this forum I can't seem to get a straight answer... some comments are saying yes to smoking on one side of Lido Deck which I already know is where the Lido Deck Bar is and some are saying no... so I still don't have a concrete answer... this can be frustrating when smoking is a factor to which ship we will sail on... oh well, looks like we will just have to book it and see for ourselves... might be the last cruise for us :-(

No one really knows..that is why you can't get a "straight" answer

They have continuously restricted the smoking areas...some were announced and some sort of just came about

so no one can "tell" you what they will do in January of 2013

It has seemed that Carnival and many of the cruiselines make such changes in a new year

They did the 2.0 change in smoking without any big fanfare but announced the no smoking in cabin stuff well in advance.

None of us work for Carnival or know the inner going on there, or can predict the future...so this is once again one of those questions that you can just take your pick...your guess is as good as mine and vice versa

Just keep in mind that the ONGOING trend is to restrict smoking more and more, rather than have new places to smoke

On Liberty it became an issue with non smoker complaints around the Guy Burger place. You picked up the burgers at the designated spot, to the right of the old smoking area. The problem (though I didn't see it as a problem) was the condiments toppings were away from the serving area and people had to walk a few feet to get there. It still wasn't directly IN the smoking area, but it was closer than where you picked up the burger. Thus...non smokers used it as ammunition, Liberty banned the area.

Yes, it can be, and every reservationist should be able to pull up information about the policies on every one of their ships when you call. For them to not know the answer is ridiculous.

Great job Carnival, keep it up.:D

The above is meant as a JOKE.

Of course you can still smoke on all Carnival ships.

Boy, I'm glad I don't smoke anymore.

I can't imagine my whole vacation coming down to where I can smoke.

It's not like planning the whole vacation around it, but if it's part of your lifestyle to have coffee and a cig early in the morning, it's nice to have a place to go. Also it's an area that we are not judged. I love going to our area and socializing there in the wee hours of the morning. During the day it makes for a great pitstop to gather your thoughts and people watch. We have a right to relax too. That's what cruising is about.

I agree 100% ...... they really should keep it they way they had it, One side of lido smoking ! I believe that was working for smokers and non-smokers, plenty of room for relaxing and having a DOD watchng the fun on the lido deck , heck even for that matter the deck above lido deck could port side smoking, just don't try to butch smokers up in a smoke pit .

I just got off the Valor Saturday. There IS smoking on the right side of the main pool area on the Lido deck. There is also smoking at the bar there. My "crew" had a mix of smoking and non-smoking folks. We used that area as a meeting place, so were there quite a bit.

You can read my "live from" reports I wrote while on the cruise here:
