SaylorGirl Posted May 16, 2012 #1 Share Posted May 16, 2012 I wanted to tell you of a sweet romance on the Queen Mary2. About a year and a half ago I booked passage for my 80 year old Mother and myself. My Mom was a recent widow after being married 65 years, I took her on this voyage to celebrate her first birthday without my Dad. I was very worried that she would feel out of place with so many "couples" around so prior to the cruise I called and asked for a large table, we were dining in the Britannia Club. They could not have hand picked better tablemates as we were seated with several other widows and one English widower. Towards the end of the trip the "widower" begin stopping by our cabin to escort my Mom to dinner, he started joining us for afternoon tea, and would spend time with her in the evenings in the casino and then dancing. And I was worried about her? I was the one feeling like a 5th wheel!! As all journeys go this one ended back in the New York Harbor sailing past the Statue of Liberty. They went their separate ways, he back to England and my Mom back to Texas. They carried on with Skype and e-mails for the next several months. In January he flew to Houston and stayed for several months. Today she is flying across the pond to London for three months, they are both as excited as teenagers. You hear about shipboard romances but with both of them in their 80's and both starting over it is indeed heart warming. They will be planning a sailing sometime in the future and of course it will be on the Queen Mary2.
