allener58 Posted May 18, 2012 #1 Share Posted May 18, 2012 Does Carnival charge an ATM fee and how much is it? If I bring a prepaid Visa card how do I get cash from it other than ATM? Thanks
firefly333 Posted May 19, 2012 #2 Share Posted May 19, 2012 I would bring cash. There is a ATM charge, used to be 3%, but seems to me it got changed in the last year and I forget now what I read it is now.

going to see the world Posted May 30, 2012 #5 Share Posted May 30, 2012 hmm...do you think it would be cheaper to use the atm on the ship if I needed cash, or an atm in Canada?

If I bring a prepaid Visa card how do I get cash from it other than ATM?Thanks If you want to "game" the system and not pay an ATM fee, one could do this: Put your S&S card into a slot machine in the casino. Follow the instructions to obtain up to $100 credit (I think that's the max per day). Pull out your card & walk over to the casino teller window and cash out. Not sure if this would work with a prepaid (why not?), but it works with a regular CC. See you on Lido deck.
ohiogymrat Posted May 30, 2012 #7 Share Posted May 30, 2012 that sounds right, its now a fixed amount instead of a percentage. It was NEVER a percentage. I dont think any ATM on the entire planet charges a percentage.

I did this on my last cruise (with my regular CC not a prepaid) and when I didn't play the machine and just cashed out the casino cashier said to be sure I play at least once or they would lock my card, theft prevention I suppose. So when I got cash for our port day I played one pull on a penny slot and hit $62.50. So I had $162.50 in my account when I returned the credits to my players account. In this case the fee was -$62.50 :D
daijayx2 Posted May 30, 2012 #9 Share Posted May 30, 2012 It was NEVER a percentage. I dont think any ATM on the entire planet charges a percentage. Actually there is ATMs that charge a percentage or a minimum fee. Depending on the amount that is being withdrawn. Almost all out of country ATM's charge you an out of country transaction fee. Usually 1%. PLUS the normal ATM fee. Canada is almost always 1% depending on what card you use. Plantcitycruise Posted May 30, 2012 #11 Share Posted May 30, 2012 I used the ATM on the Legend last year and it was either $6 or $8 per use. Unfortunately I didn't inform my bank I was traveling, so my repeated attempts to withdraw money cost me around $30. Luckily the concierge (or what ever it's called on a ship) called the bank and released my card. However, charges were still on there when I got home. My advise is to just bring money with you. Why even mess with ATM. Bring more than you think you will need. You can always put it back in the bank.
