Smoking Question
Efforts have been made to mitigate those. Ever heard of emissions laws? Yes, hazards exists, they likely always will, but that's no excuse not to try to minimize or eliminate the ones we can.

. . . a particular place/side for smoking balconies would be better. . .
Why would a company trying to make money devote half of the balconies to a group that only comprises about 20% of their target customers?
I know there are smokers and there are non smokers, for me I am unlucky enough to be a smoker. I obey all rules and regulations and yet I still find myself discriminated against. I try not offend others with my habit, luckily there are less and less smokers but some of us do have this nasty habit that was once condoned by government and society. So what I would like to ask is where would you like us smokers to go. You don't want us on a balcony, you don't want us in a smokers room. So where are we allowed to go so it won't infringe on you? Are we allowed a little space or compassion or are we considered we scum and not tolerated anywhere. My money is just as good as yours I am a good person I don't intentionally go out of my way to upset my fellow passengers. I myself would like a smoking cruise but that is not feasible or hotels that cater for us smokers. But this won't happen what I would like is that maybe one side of ships is smokers and the other is designated non smoking so that all can be happy and harmonious. But again the majority is not happy with this either. A little compassion a little tolerance. I just don't like the feeling that I am bit of dirt because I am smoker, I try my hardest not to inflict my habit on others but where are we allowed to smoke, where we won't upset the non smoker. Each of us do have some form of habits some more noticeable than others. So how about coming to some sort of solution like two decks smokers others are smoke free. Two hotel levels others smoke free. And I agree to no smoking indoors eg casino, restaurants, nightclubs etc anywhere but have an outside venue for a smoker to go. So it is a smokers choice to go to an inside venue smoke free and a non smokers choice to go to a designated smokers area. I feel the bigger area should go to the majority which is the non smokers but us smokers also need a little consideration and compassion also considering smoking was once a very fashionable thing to do and yes some of us have the habit. Maybe in future years it maybe extinct from our society but like many other minority groups we are now face with discrimination.
I take great issue with your choice of the word "discrimination". That is a legal term that applies to many people due to race, color, religious belief, national orgin, etc. At no point should there be laws protecting a persons ability to make poor choices that have a negative effect on other people. It is not discrimination, it is preference, medical conditions, and health reasons that many of us cite for not wanting to be exposed to smoke, it is most certainly not discriminiation.

Much of your argument seems reasonable, but your bad habit is not something I should be forced to tolerate under the banner of discrimination.
Forced...against your will. Really? Adam showed up at your house and threatened to kill your African Violet if you didn't cruise with Royal? Please. You have choice, in the end you decided the benefits of cruising with Royal outweigh the negatives. Nobody is forcing you to do anything. You are choosing to cruise with Royal despite their smoking policy.

I think I'm suggesting complaining in a public forum is not terribly useful, and if you really want to make an impact choose another line and let Royal know about it. Money talks.[/quote

Thats the beauty of a public forum, no matter how useful/or not that it is, we can still voice our opinion. Maybe someone from the cruise line will read and take notice. Either way, it is our choice to speak out and harms no one, you can choose to ignore if you do not like it.

On the other hand, I cannot choose to ignore your smoke when you light up and then blow it into the area I pay for. You are polluting my balcony, and yes, when you do that, I am forced to endure it. I can promise that if beer drinkers on deck ten started peeing off thier balcony, the folks on the decks below would be offended. To some us, your smoke is almost as bad. What you do to yourself is your own business, but when you force us to breath it in by polluting the space we pay for, we are going to complain loudly and strive for change. Again, every time I am asked for my opinion of my cruise expereince, whether it is via a comment card, a follow up phone cal from my CVP, or other people of influence with the company, I say the things I like and then tell them how bad the smoking. I am proud to say that myself and people like me seem to be slowing winning this battle to restrict smokers from having the ability to effect us. :p
And you can help achieve this worthy goal by keeping away from the smoking areas. Hey! Look how simple that is.
or even better, to eliminate the smoking ares completely.

Just want to thank everyone once again for the helpful comments you gave me a couple of days ago, and the additional comments that make for great entertainment while I watch the ball game! Next time I think I'll start an uncontroversial thread about something like shorts in the dining room or sneaking booze on board or tipping!:)

I never said half of the balconies?
I said one side /or part.
20% would be good.
I book well in advance, so i would be able to secure a smoking balcony if they were limited.

I don't think you got your answer but it has been fun. I asked a similar question on trip advisor and wow my head was chewed to bits. Thanks for the laughs most entertaining.

Sure you can. That's the beauty of being in a free country. You can also parade around with a sandwich board, whilst holding the left shoe from Marlin Perkins, as a way to get your message out. Please don't fail to post a picture if you do.

Ah, so what I hear you saying is that if one passenger is performing or involved in an action that adds risk, specifically health risk, to other passengers that activity should be stopped. Free clue! Listen to Admiral Ackbar.

Yes, it's entertaining for sure. She did get her answer for the most part. There is no port or starboard side only when it comes to which side one can smoke on. At this point it's any balcony on RCI where smokers can smoke.

As for the best location, that would be the farthest forward balcony since there is no balcony forward of it. Although in port it can come from the next balcony back.

Another suggestion would be to book the balcony room directly behind an owner's suite that is situated with the sitting area next to her room. Not all owner's suites are designed this way but it's easy to look at the deck plan and see which ones have the solid wall just forward of the balcony. Of course this eliminates the ability to speak with a nice neighbor on that side, too. But some people aren't interested in being neighborly. :)

We had a really nice and friendly neighbor named Ted just forward from us on the first leg of our recent B2B on Radiance. On the second leg we had another very nice man who's name I never got because we really couldn't hang out with him out there due to his heavy smoking. Yes, it blew onto our balcony often and even penetrated into the room. We survived. So much for our mid hump balcony which we selected on the day of release. It was a super nice location other than the smoke for 18 days.

I'm flame proof. :p
