Weather in St. Thomas, St. Martin and Coco Cay in February

Recommended Posts

We are getting ready to book a cruise for the Eastern Caribbean for February, 2012. What is the weather like at these stops? Is it nice enough to swim in the ocean? Thanks for any replies.

Yes .. temperatures in St. Maarten and St. Thomas will be in the 80's and the water temp will be 80's also :) .. Coco Cay will be cooler and could be quite a bit cooler.

I wouldn't count on water temps in the 80's in Feb! Coco Cay is on par with Florida's weather...it's NOT in the Caribbean...it's in the Atlantic! If it's hot enough to sweat, the water will be refreshing. If it's not hot enough for sweating, then there's no real reason to get in the water!

St. Thomas and St. Martin ARE in the Caribbean, and the temps (land and water) should be quite nice!

There will be increasing brightness after dawn, with a chance of clouds, sun, or rain. There will be increasing darkness toward evening. Ocean conditions are predicted to be wet, with some waves and scattered sand on the beach. ;)

Honestly, weather conditions can vary greatly. Plan for warm days, but bring a sweater or jacket as the evenings can be cool. As stated, the water in the Bahamas can be quite cool in February.

Coco Cay water will be in the upper 60's in February. You will need a wetsuit.

Dave and others, well said, I sure do agree with you. The Bahamas while a nice 3-4-5 day getaway from the winter temps in New England or the Mid-West. Passengers will not only have to live with very cool-cold pool water to high 60's-low 70's ocean water in the Bahamas, the Atlantic/Florida/Bahamas can expect to be very windy at times. There have been times the winds have made it impossible to sit on the beach in the Bahamas.

On to the Western Caribbean. We've been there a many many times and Jan-April is not the time to expect warm water. Last year late January-February the pool water was too cold to enjoy (left from Port Everglades on the Allure) and trying to get used to high 60's-low 70's ocean water in Cozumel just didn't happen. While it was a very enjoyable cruise, being able to enjoy the ocean was not something that one should expect to do in the winter time.

As said, on the Eastern side, further south from St. Thomas on down the island chain the Caribbean is comfortable but not as warm as in the summer months for beach activity.

Hope you were able to gather more information from this post and others to make it a good cruise for all of you.
