jan can Posted May 29, 2012 #1 Share Posted May 29, 2012 We come in on a Sunday morning from Bermuda. Our flight from Newark doesn't leave until 6. The NYC tour doesn't interest us as we've done much of this before. Is there a place to store our luggage so we can spend some free time in NYC. Rushing off to Newark to sit in an airport seems boring. Suggestions. Is a reservation on the shuttle bus needed? If we took a cab to the Port Authority, does anyone know if they have storage. We've used that airport shuttle before.
YOW Posted May 29, 2012 #2 Share Posted May 29, 2012 You could take a cab to one of the big hotels (Marriott Marquis, Hilton 6th Av, Grand Hyatt, etc, just depends on where you're headed); have the bell desk hold your bags (tell them you just checked out / or are checking in later... and tip); and make arrangements then (or in advance) for an airport shuttle to pick you up at that hotel. hypercafe Posted May 29, 2012 #3 Share Posted May 29, 2012 Use luggage direct. On our last HAL trip we did and it was great. For a fee of 20$ per bag we left it outside of our stateroom the last night and didn't see it again until we got off of the plane at our home airport. We also got our boarding pass on the ship. innlady1 Posted May 29, 2012 #4 Share Posted May 29, 2012 Luggage Direct is the best way to go. If your airline isn't part of that program, there is a place near the port that stores it for $10 a bag, I believe. We were given that info on our disembarkation form. Typhoon1 Posted May 29, 2012 #5 Share Posted May 29, 2012 Luggage direct is the best investment you can make.
YOW Posted May 29, 2012 #6 Share Posted May 29, 2012 Sorry, I didn't realize that Luggage Direct was offered in NY. That would be a better way to go.
jan can Posted May 31, 2012 Author #7 Share Posted May 31, 2012 It doesn't appear that our carrier is a member of Luggage Direct. That would have been perfect. The second option of a place that will hold our bags sounds excellent too. Is there anything in easy walking distance of the terminal for us to explore? sppunk Posted May 31, 2012 #8 Share Posted May 31, 2012 You are essentially 10 blocks from Times Square. Walk is around 15 minutes. So essentially all of midtown is at your immediate disposal. Cabs are there abd cheap if you want to save the walking and venture somewhere more specific.

Johanna7 Posted May 31, 2012 #11 Share Posted May 31, 2012 HAL offered a tour one for the people leaving from jfk and another for people leav ing from LGA Our plane left at 4 p.m. at EWR -- anyway, Newark and we took a taxi ($78 plus tip) as the tour they had was cancelled due to not enough people signing up. It would have been $39 each for the shuttle to the airport so I guess $78 plus tip is about the same as the shuttle.
FRANKIEDNYC Posted May 31, 2012 #12 Share Posted May 31, 2012 :) Right next to where you pull in is the USS Intrepid, Sea Air and Space museum. It is awesome ! You could easily spend all day there.

That's a wonderful suggestion...we wished we'd had enough time to explore the Intrepid.
