Wondering when you leave ship in San Francisco do they offer transfers

to both San Francisco airport and Oakland.

We are getting ready to book our airfare home and prices from both airports are the same. Prefer Oakland, and the flight times from there.

i know the port is a mess so prefer not to try to find a cab.:D

Only to SFO... we took transfers to SFO a couple of years ago and it was very convenient.

I just returned from a repositioning cruise out of SFO. I used GoShuttles

SFO to Pier 35 was $16. It looks like you can go from the pier to OAK for $25.00

 

You can also catch the BART, but it is a little more bothersome.

Thanks for the info. We are also going to be coming home from South America (On the Grand March 2013).

If transfers aren't offered at all, then I will book flight from Oakland. I will also book a late afternoon flight.

You might want a early evening flight, especially going out of OAK.

Why do you prefer OAK over SFO? I have found for a large airport SFO is well-organized. It seems it is more convenient and saves a little money. For peace of mind, choose a flight after four.

Check out Super Shuttle to use instead of ship's transfer (if offerred). We used them to take us to the Oakland Airport after our first South American cruise. Should be around $17 pp. We shared the ride with one other couple on our cruise. I'm thinking about using them this time too unless we try BART. Since flights back to Birmingham leave in the morning, we will probably spend the night and take an early AM flight on Sunday. Super Shuttle will pick up at our hotel to SF Airport for $17pp.

If you take BART to the Oakland airport be aware that it does not stop directly at the airport like at SFO. You get off BART then take a bus transfer over to the airport itself. A bit more of a hassle with a lot of luggage.

The reason I prefer Oakland airport is Southwest airlines. They have direct flights to San Diego going all day, into the evening and much cheaper than flights by other airlines from San Francisco.

Most flights out of SF aren't direct flights.Oakland airport isn't very far, in fact may be closer than SFO. I wouldn't think of taking BART, especially loaded with suitcases. The neighborhood closest to the Oakland airport is not a good one to walk around with luggage and cabs may not be available.

I'm waiting for Southwest to open flights as they will probably be our best best but probably out of SF. Did make hotel reservations at both cities just in case Oakland has better flights/pricing. Agree BART would not be a choice for Oakland but maybe ok for SFO if you can handle luggage.. Have never had a problem using Super Shuttle to or from ports in Calif.

We just returned from 5/13 disembarkation back in SF and used the ship's transfer. We were off the ship by 8am and they had us follow a specific path to the awaiting buses after getting our luggage.

Our time to Terminal1 at SF airport was approx.30 min.

 

If they are going to offer this when we get off the Grand 49'r we will definitely do this again.

I, like Tina, have booked an overnight in SFO in March. Also, in the past I have used GO and Super shuttles. Happy with both. I am also amenable to using Princess, as long as I'm not in a hurry to make a flight. I too will wait for SW to open. OAK does not have flights suitable for us.

At the SF port I called and made reservations so there would be a van there for me at the time I wanted to head off to Oakland airport. The SF port we used in 2007 (can't remember the pier#) wasn't really able to accomodate Super Shuttle, etc inside the port area like at San Pedro port. There was barely enough room for the ones disembarking to walk around. I also make reservations when I am picked up at hotels. I just feel more comfortable knowing that when I am ready to be picked up that there will be a van waiting for me. I make the reservations over the phone - not on their website. My personal choice - Super Shuttle over Princess transfer.

Just got off in San Fran last week with my cousin. I booked Princess Transfer for only $24 to SFO, there was no option for transfer to Oakland (cousin had to book car service so she wouldn't have to wait in cab/shuttle line). Princess had us meet at casino at 9:10am, then off the ship by 9:30 or so, pick up luggage, and right onto buses. We were at airport and checked in by 11am. This was great because the San Fran pier area is a MAD house! The line for cabs was LONG and the non-ship transfers were off on the side, but mixed into the madness.

Just checked and Southwest does have great flights direct to San Diego from there. Wish we could book now as the prices are really good, hope this continues into March dates.

Taking the ship's transportation rather than standing in a cab or shuttle line appeals to me.

Dont forget about Virgin America they offer direct flights to San Diego from SFO.

Thank you so much about Virgin America. I had no idea they even flew into San Diego and non stop a big plus. They haven't released March dates yet. I did go in and check out January and it was really cheap. Will try them once dates are available.

Noticed that you're from or in Concord, CA. That's exactly where we have to go after our alaska cruise on Sea Princess. Initially I was going to take the ferry from Pier 41 to Oakland, pickup rental car, and stay on the Waterfront in Oakland. But many folks suggested I'd probably be more comfortable staying in San Francisco rather than Oakland and simply take BART to Concord when I need to move to that location. We have 2 full days to fill before we need to be in Concord.

 

Do you agree that Oakland may not be a good place for us (2 seniors) to stay? Is the BART from San Francisco to Concord safe? We'll have some luggage, but nothing overwhelming.

We always take the BART in and out of SFO, including to Embarcadero for cruises and I have always felt safe.

 

A few years ago we flew down for a San Francisco/Vancouver repositioning cruise just after I had suffered from a long illness and even then the walk from the BART to the ship was no particular challenge.

How much luggage can you take on Bart?

you can take as much luggage on bart as you can haul...there is room..though rush hour is crowded.

 

I would recommend staying in SF for seniors...parts of oakland are fine, parts are horrible ..and it has been bad recently... you are safer in the tourist areas of SF...though the western neighborhoods are fine too.
