Can someone explain how deposit work on X?

Hello,

We currently have our reservation on hold. I called the X to ask about the deposit, but I am confused. This is what explained to me, so is it true?

If I cancel AFTER final payment, I will lose all my deposit. They will not transfer this deposit to new booking. BUT do I get my money back minus the deposit?

Thanks,

Tibbie

That is incorrect information. If you cancel after you have made the final payment, you pay a percentage of the total fare as penalty depending on when you cancel. Once you have made final payment, the deposit is just part of that payment.

That information is on Celebrity's web site.

Effective August 1, 2010, new reservations will fall under the following cancellation schedule:

1 - 5 Nights

60 + No Charges

59-43 Deposit Amount

42-29 50% of total price (taxes & fees excluded)*

28-15 75% of total price (taxes & fees excluded)*

14 or less No refund except for taxes and fees

6 Nights or longer

75 + No Charges

74-57 Deposit Amount

56-29 50% of total price (taxes & fees excluded)*

28-15 75% of total price (taxes & fees excluded)*

14 or less No refund except for taxes and fees

Cruisetours

75+ No Charges

74-57 Deposit Amount

56-29 50% of total price (taxes & fees excluded)*

28-15 75% of total price (taxes & fees excluded)*

14 or less No refund except for taxes and fees

If you have a 6 night or longer cruise and cancel 75 or more days before sail date, you get the entire deposit back. Full payment is due 75 days before sail date. If you cancel after final payment but at least 57 days before sail date, you lose your deposit but get the rest of your fare returned.

I presume the OP is referring to the US booking conditions. In the UK it is different and if you cancel 57 days or more before sailing you lose all your deposit. 56 days or less and cancellation charges are levied as described below.

Deposits:

Deposits for UK bookings are £150.00 per person.

Cancellation charges

The following cancellations charges apply:

5 days or less*** ** 100%

6 - 14 days********** ** 90%

15 - 28 days*********** 75%

29 - 56 days*********** 50%

57 days or more*** Deposit only (£150 per person)

Please be advised that the minimum cancellation charge will always be the loss of deposit and that any amendment or transfer fees will also be charged when a booking is cancelled.
