omgneecola Posted June 13, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 13, 2012 In Skagway, if you don't go on the train, are you missing out on a lot? Also, is there any other ways to visit the areas the train takes you? And anyone know of any other good excursions in Skagway? Thank You :)

You can drive or take a bus tour. Just remember that if you go too far, you will be entering Canada so you need to take your passport. DON
Budget Queen Posted June 13, 2012 #3 Share Posted June 13, 2012 The common views of the train and Klondike Highway, are only a couple miles. The scenery from the White Pass is superior. BUT the train is not a "must do". It would be, if a rail fan or interested in the history. A car rental is a great option for many. You need to allow 5 hours for a round trip Emerald Lake look. There are several combo bus/van White Pass tours. Excellent Hiking, bike riding, Historic District with a Park Service visitor center and free walking tours etc http://www.skagway.com
