Herculaneum - mostly closed?

At any given time, at a site like Herculaneum and Pompeii, some of the specific buildings are going to be closed.

Looking at the official website for Herculaneum, http://www.pompeiisites.org (same website for Pompeii, by the way), it was pretty easy to locate this list of individual sites that are closed. It's supposed to be current but I notice it is dated April/May. At any rate, it gives you some idea:

I have a feeling that they will do their best to have more open during the peak tourist season than when I was there in early April. On the other hand, some of the ongoing work I noticed doesn't seem like it will be completed anytime soon (particularly the Palaestra, the Baths facing the sea, a couple of the larger villas, etc.) The Villa of the Papyri has been closed for years for renovations....

If you really want an answer minus speculation, I'd suggest you email the office of the superintendent of the sites or call them. They will get back to you. We did this several times regarding specific information about Pompeii before our visit.

Thank you Cruisemom42, I noticed that April/May update also, and am crossing fingers that there may be more open during peak season. From the notes you sent me it looks like there is still tons more to see. :)
