Souper Cruiser Posted June 19, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 19, 2012 Great time on 6 Night Enchantment of the Seas We had a wonderful cruise that left Baltimore on June 8th. I finally stopped swaying so I thought I would send in a quick update. Embarkment: Could not have been more pleasant. Arrived at the port around 10:45 am; checked in and sat in the holding area for around 15 minutes. We were onboard by 11:45 am. Rooms/Accommodations: We were a family group of 15 with 7 inside cabins on the 3rd floor. They were on the small side but totally worth it for the money. Dining: We easily switched from an 8:30 pm seating to MTD and got a nightly seating at 7:45 pm. (We pre-paid our tips hoping to switch when we got on board—and it worked.) We ate in the main dining rooms all nights except the Monday we were in Bermuda. Our staff was excellent! Almost all breakfasts and lunches were in the WJ. Onboard activities: The weather was wonderful the first 5 days of the trip and we mainly hung by the pool. It was challenging but possible to get seats. The 7 kids in our group were ages 14 – 24 and mostly stayed together (when the older ones were not in the casino or in one of the bars.) I was happy to have the 1 pm curfew for my 14 and 16 years olds. Bermuda: The ship arrived in port promptly at 3 pm but we waited till close to 4 pm to leave the ship. A group of us walked to the Sea glass beach while others walked around the dockyard. The Sea glass beach outing was wonderful and a real highlight since it was off the beaten path. We were following the picture directions I found on the Bermuda Cruise critic page and it felt like a pictorial scavenger hunt. A wonderful local gentleman led us to a short cut down to the beach. On our way back, the same man was hanging out with his family and we all spend 10 minutes in a wonderful conversations. (Shout out to the members of the Pumpkin lounge.) On Monday morning, we took the bus down to Horseshoe Bay and had a fabulous time there. Some of our group brought “soccer chairs” with them and we also rented two chairs as well. It was well worth the $11 investment per chair. We had a bite to eat at the snack shack there. Our less athletic group members to the $2 shuttle to the top of the hill and we caught the bus back to the dockyard. In the late afternoon, a few of us took the Fairy to Hamilton and walked around a bit. Some of our group did the Rum excursion. On Monday Night, it was the first “Destination Dockyard” night. We really enjoyed visiting the vendors and listening to the music. There was even a marching band. The weather was perfect. On Tuesday morning, some of our group did a scuba excursion at 8 am and some of us walked around the dockyard area. We finally had a chance to visit the glass factory, the rum cake factory and the mall. We all arrived back to the ship by 11:15 am along with hundreds of others. Bumpy ride: As we left Bermuda, the weather changed and it became very windy. Our rider got very rough and rocky. Apparently this is pretty common when cruise ships leave Bermuda. Wednesday we had rain and wind for most of the day but it was a smoother ride. We all managed to find something fun to do, from shopping (the ship had all their great sales that day), to watching the cake decoration contest (very silly) to hanging in the solarium. We all met in the Schooner Bar for a big family game of Charades in the afternoon. It entertained all of us, ages 14 – 84! Our disembarkment process went just as smoothly has our embarkement process. We were in the group that was supposed to depart at 8:40 am. At 8 am, there was announcement at the first four groups could leave. It could not have been any better. We were driving on I-95 by 8:40am. Be ready to leave earlier than expected! A few other notes: We went to a few of the shows but some of our timing was off because of our 7:45 pm dinner seating. It amazed me how well trained the staff is. We are all so used to having cell phones that it was hard to find each other sometimes. We found if we sat in the same area at the pool and at the WJ, we usually met up. Cruising out of Baltimore is a dream. All in all, it was a great trip and a wonderful way to celebrate my parents 55th (56th really) anniversary. Thank you for all the tips along the way. terpfan101 Posted June 19, 2012 #3 Share Posted June 19, 2012 Glad you had a blast. I had a great time on the 5 day Bermuda cruise on Enchantment in August 2011. You got over the swaying much quicker than I did though. It lasted over a week and a half for me (though was mild near the end)!
emelvee Posted June 19, 2012 #4 Share Posted June 19, 2012 Great to hear, thanks for the review. We're on her in 23 days. I love cruising out of Baltimore. I was happy to have the 1 pm curfew for my 14 and 16 years olds. I like this idea for when our daughter is that age. I know what you meant. :P

Really interested in what you thought of Destination Dockyard as there isn't much info on this. Are there food vendors as well? Love the Enchantment and Baltimore! Souper Cruiser Posted June 20, 2012 Author #10 Share Posted June 20, 2012 Thanks for the review! we're doing the 6 night next month :). Really interested in what you thought of Destination Dockyard as there isn't much info on this. Are there food vendors as well? Love the Enchantment and Baltimore! It was a very nice event and that is why we skipped dinner in the main dining room. There were vendors selling snack food and some street fare but we went after having dinner in the WJ. We did not buy many gifts on the trip in general but we bought most of our gifts that night from the vendors at Destination Dockyard. We found some very nice (and reasonable) jewelry and ceramics. Enjoy!
