How much do you $$ spend on board, usually?

So.., another honesty question!! :D

NOT including casinos, how much do you spend in a week on board the ship?

What is the MOST you've ever spent?

My revelation: about $1500. Does that sound like alot, or not? I'm sure it varies alot if you drink or not, eat in up charge restaurants, etc.

Not a lot - but frankly we are pretty cheap cruisers:

We don't drink (My DH MIGHT have ONE beer and I MIGHT have one foufou drink in a week)

Once I have gambled away my $20 gambling money - that's it.

We usually eat at one specialty restaurant (occasionally 2).

We arrange our own shore excursions 99% of the time - so that's not an on-board expense.

We are not shoppers - so we don't buy souvenirs on board.

We do usually leave an extra tip for our cabin steward and sometimes for the specialty restaurant waiter (if exceptionally good).

So on average I would say that including the service charge we spend less thant $200-250 each on-board.

We usually spend around $500 onboard, including auto gratuities (although we left extra cash for our room steward). This past cruise our bill was right at $500 -- this included $150 for a future cruise deposit, but did not include ~$100 for a pre-paid excursion, bus passes, beach chair rentals, etc. We ate in specialty restaurants 3 nights but only paid for 1 of them since family sailing with us for our wedding cruise treated us to the other 2 nights.

7 day around $1500-$2000 .

Specialty Rest., shore trips , drinks/wine ,gift shop.

Its when they cant slide the bill under the door in one set , Then I dont want to look,,

I've always wanted to keep pushing the bill back out into the hall as they slide it under lol like no thanks :D

We are not drinkers, so one or two throughout the week, so excursions (if not pre-booked directly), specialty restaurants, DSC, etc. usually comes to between $400-600 for the two of us.

However, we spent more on the last two cruises (Alaska on the Pearl and Western Caribbean on the Sun) as I won the first poker tournament on both and won $1800 and $750 respectively (and placed third in the second tourny on the second trips to add another $300+), so there was more to throw around!

On our last cruise we spent about 10$ in the gift shop. My final bill was 700ish for 2 excursions and the daily tips. We didnt spend any other money onboard. We paid ahead for 2 excursions which saved me a lot of money on my final bill. Previous cruises were pretty much all on my final bill and then they were up around 1500 like yours.

I'm getting a bit confused

Can you pay your gratuaties upfront (time of booking)?

Can you book your excursions and pay for them before the cruise?

Can you get a soda package booked before you cruise?

Can you book a massage before the cruise?

I've only sailed with RCI and looking at booking the Epic but ready some of your posts, there is a lot of money being spent on the account during the cruise. I don't drink alcohol, I'll probably have a massage on the ship, I will probably do a couple of excursions.

Please help!:o

Our usual 7 day onboard bill for two adults:

Specialty Restaurants: $60-80 cover charges and tips

Alcohol (beer, wine and mixed drinks): $300-$400, depending on how well we tip the bar staff

Purchases at Duty Free shops: $100 (usually a bottle of cologne. Not that it's much cheaper than online, etc., but a cruise is a nice time to shop, and prices are comparable)

Other drinks (coffee or soda): $15

Spa: Sometimes $100-150, sometimes $0

Computer: $30-50, depending on how much work I have to do

Total without daily service charge: ~$600-800. $150 more if we do a "future cruise credit" purchase.

So, about $100/day plus daily service charge

On shore, we usually spend $75-200/port. $75 if wandering on our own or doing an all-inclusive beach deal. Up to $200 if we have an excursion plus time on our own.

Including excursions and specialty dining fees, the two of us usually come in around $1000-$1200 total for the week. That includes sodas, wine, beer, a cocktail or two, and various miscellaneous purchases. The vast majority is spent on excursions and dining since we eat mostly at the specialty restaurants and only eat one or two dinners in the main dining rooms.

And now, those are all prepaid, so I expect our OBC bill will much lower this time around.

I didn't spend more onboard NCL than I did on other lines.

The only item in your list I'd consider paying upfront are excursions that I'm worried might sell out. Generally I don't like paying for things before I need to. But if you want to, you should be able to arrange and pay most of the items on your list in advance.

Can you pay your gratuaties upfront (time of booking)? YES or soon after booking.

Can you book your excursions and pay for them before the cruise? YES NCLs new rules are that you have to pay upfront if you book online. You used to be able to just schedule it and pay onboard.

Can you get a soda package booked before you cruise? I believe so, but it might have to be thru your agent. I dont recall seeing that option on the site.

Can you book a massage before the cruise? I dont know.

You can also book restaurant reservations online within a few weeks of your cruise.

Also bus transfers are purchasable either thru your agent ahead of time or on the ship. You cant schedule them online because if you have a flight time thats too early they wont sell you one.

In Alaska, they wouldnt sell me a bus transfer ahead of time because my flight time was 11am. But the bus guy was standing there at the pier selling tickets, so I got one from him..:p

Hi,

-Service charge

-drinks

-a few pictures

-extra tips

-specialty restaurant

about 1000$ for 2 people

excluding parking in NYC

excluding excursions ( I do not book with NCL )

excluding 3 or 4 btl of wine/champagne I bring on board

I do not feel like I restrain myself on the ship in order to be around this amount, we do what we want when we want and both times it came to about 1000$

The most we have ever spent is $2000. That includes upcharge restaurants every evening, a drink or 2 per day, souvenirs, bingo and a beautiful tanzanite ring for me.

I cruise to get pampered in the spa and eat Godzilla rolls. DH cruises to hang out in the spa thalassotherapy pool, eat sushi, and play in Texas Hold'em tournaments. Kiddo cruises to play in the Kids' Club, visit the ship's medical facilities (*ugh*), and wipe out the ship's supply of salmon sushi.

The credit card isn't -quite- to smoking when we get off, but the words on the front are a bit faint... ;)

My rule of thumb for a general estimate of the overall vacation cost when my wife & I drive to the port is:

Add up the two basic cruise fares (my wife's and mine), then double it. So, for example, we're going on the Epic for a week in early 2013, and we've secured a balcony cabin for about $750 each. So our two $750 fares total $1500, then double that and it's $3,000 total for the week. That includes gas, hotels before & after cruise, all drinks onboard, specialty meals, casino gambling (which we budget a modest daily figure for and quit when it's gone, or else bank any winnings without adding those winnings to the next day's total), all shore excursions, gratuities, etc, etc, etc. The only variable we don't include in that total is souveniers.

While we believe that we might exceed that guideline for the Epic because there's so much to do onboard, it's been a reliable guideline for almost every cruise we've ever taken.

That has been about the average for us. However, that has included ship's excursions. Now that we are paying upfront, I'd estimate the service charge x 2 plus about $300 for drinks, shops, fill a bag laundry. We don't do the casino, either. For our upcoming cruise we've already paid over 1K for an overnight excursion...don't usually spend so much on one, but we really wanted to do the overnight to Jerusalem.

BAHAHAHA That actually made me laugh because when I went on a cruise with my first husband (prior to my CC knowledge) we had a HUGE bill $1500 bar tab at least. This was prior to specialty restaurants THANK GOODNESS!!!

Second hubby and myself are much more frugal and neither of us are big drinkers. We do the excursions on our own and always travel with OBC's. The last cruise we got a refund of $45!

Love it! Now I feel like I am in the zone. the 17K for a two weeker, whoa, I do also HOPE that was the most amazing time ever!! I'd have to work over a month for that alone. Yikes.

I try to be frugal but it's also a time to let go a bit, life is shor...t kinda thinking. Easy to get in trouble.

I don't do spa stuff as I can do that at home, no casino as that's like a kids arcade and the odds are even worse, no shopping because you certainly aren't going to get any sale items on board. But if I see something worthwhile and I really want to have it on a port spree, I might go for it.

Other wise it's coffee drinks, drinks, and shore excursions. Tipping; I'm a heavy tipper. Used to be in service, so I always overcompensate.

Besides dsc our last bill was under 100

took one ship excursion, sushi bar 2x, brizilian steakhouse once, 1 drink, one raffle ticket. Had 175ish in OBC the last day we had to splurge (had a negative account)

1 mom, 3 kids, 7 days:

$200/kid for shore and ship=600

11.50 pp/day for tips (service charge)=322

Coke cardsX3= $150ish

Pictures=$200

Shopping=$150

Shore excursions X3 ports, not booked through cruiseline=$1000

Gambling money for 7 days=$1000

So, that is about $3400.

*sigh* But we have FUN!
