Suggestions Please! - Galveston departure

Having a problem finding anyplace decent that doesn't require two nights....sigh.

Any tourist destination has that problem when events are happening.

And it's high season. And with the better hotels/motels.

Welcome to the world of supply and demand.

Same as the cruise industry

There are are cruises in high demand

and the prices go thru the roof.

Then there are some cruises that do not sell out

and not in demand and rooms in oversupply

and price drop near sailing date. I

It's a free marketplace.

What our country is!!!!!!!

Do your homework!

Same as NO, south beach , key west and etc.

I work for the Walt Disney Co and travel all over the world for events - fairly familiar with how hotels work during peak periods or large events - it was not a complaint.

I will book an economy hotel now and wait until closer to my departure to see if rooms are released in higher-end properties.

I do not use hotels.com or any of the other booking services - too many restrictions and 9 times out of 10 I can get the same price talking to the hotel directly - it's also much easier to adjust the reservation.

With you're thinking smart with your travel experience,

I'm sure you will be able to adjust your reservation.

Good luck !

We are not

needing hotel assistance here often,

and are not familiar with specific details

of the specific hotels at specific times,

as we live in Galveston.

If we can help let us know!

Thanks, ssb - appreciate it!! Since you're native and have line-of-sight contact with Galveston :D, maybe you can shed light on which of the enonomy hotels are worth staying at? It's all fine and dandy when the Mouse is paying the bills :D but if I'm only staying for one night before a cruise? I just want someplace clean and in a good location pier-wise but don't necessarily want to break the bank if I'm not getting my money's worth, know what I mean?...suggestions??

I'm looking at the Four Points Sheraton -- I don't know the area at all...

Good location

Should be Good hotel, completed gutted and renovated

after Ike . Therefore newer than others not worn. Haven't seen any bad reviews but look.

Same area is country inn and suites a new one

And holiday inn sunspree also fairly new. Holiday inn resorts also.

Try these and and if price isn't right will refer to others.

It's easier to list the properties that Landry doesn't own.:p

You are correct Tillman is blowing and going in Galveston

and around the US in hotels, high end restaurant chains and casinos

and with The New Pleasure Pier in Galveston!

He sure helped Galveston recover quickly after IKE

I stayed there in January the night before my cruise. It was fine. It is located on the seawall. They offer shuttles to take you to the cruise terminal and if you have a vehicle then it can stay parked at the hotel for free.

Galveston tends to be pricey. I don't mind that, but I want to feel as if I got my money's worth. And, unfortunately I seldom feel that way in Galveston. Two night minimum is very common and during peak times it is a 3 night minimum. The room rate for the Four Seasons in January was $95 but I booked it through hotwire. The hotel directly was significnatly higher. I'm surprised I got such a good rate considering that the Triumph was returning that day and the Magic Royal Caribbean were both sailing the following day.

My first pick would be the San Luis as it is nice. Hilton gets good reviews but my last stay there was AWFUL. No hot water AND my toilet overflowed which resulted in the entire room being flooded. It was not a good experience.

I think I may stay in Clear Lake/Kemah. Found a very cheap hotel on Hotwire. I don't mind staying 30 miles away, just don't want to drive the 5 hours that day of departure. Just need a place to lay my head for the night.

I'm from a different roll call, but know the area pretty well. Kemah would not be bad and you could eat at the aquarium and watch sharks, and other fish, circle you as you eat. my family and friends loved that. I presume it has recovered from Ike.

Hi.. Are you familiar with any of the RV Parks? We are planning to drive our M/H from CA to Galveston for our Dec cruise. Would like to arrive a few days early and leave RV and tow vehicle in the park for the week.

Thanks

  • 4 weeks later...

We are currently staying at the Galvestonian. Absolutely beautiful and I'm sure you could get all 7 people in one condo. We are in 1110. Check it out!! Not sure about minimum stay or cruise parking.

Also, the RV park right down the road on Seawall looks really nice.
