Whale Watching in Vancouver

Recommended Posts

In the event anyone is interested, there is a great whale trip out of Vancouver. It's called Steveston Seabreeze Adventures. The tour was $120/p last year when we went. They have a shuttle that picks up from all city hotels and the trip was very nice. We saw beautiful scenery and a lot of Orcas. The boat is comfortable and there is a marine/ecology person on board to help with questions.

Thanks for the Review. I know the folks at both Seabreeze adventures and Vancouver Whalewatch (in Steveston) and they are both great outfits! They have a very good record and have been seeing lots of orcas lately, even a couple humpbacks out in the Strait!

While Vancouver itself is not a hotbed for whale watching, if you are prepared to invest the 45 mins or so that it takes to go out to Steveston (beyond Vancouver's airport) then these services are as good as any. From that location they can reach into the Strait of Juan de Fuca as well as Georgia Strait. There are 3 resident pods of Orcas in that vicinity that comprise just under 90 whales in total....but remember they are constantly on the move following feed and there are no guarantees. Humpbacks and greys are migratory so being there for their passage is extremely important.

It was a wonderful experience to see them. The ride to the Strait was lovely as well. I enjoyed the (free) shuttle to Steveston as it was like a sightseeing trip.
