Milwaukee Girl Posted October 28, 2012 #27 Share Posted October 28, 2012 Just to clarify, cab fare from Montego Bay port to Dr. Cave beach is 5.00 p/p ea way. Falmouth would be more, there are closer beach options right in the Falmouth area. Which beaches are closer to Falmouth? thanks, Colleen
zzupschuck Posted October 29, 2012 #28 Share Posted October 29, 2012 Please excuse my ignorance , but here goes: We are cruising to Montego Bay in November and would like to go to Dr. Cave Beach. So do you just walk off the ship and get a cab and tell the Dr. Cave Beach? Then you pay the fee and go in? So far no problem. One post mentioned Jerk chicken, which I love. Is the restaurant there at the beach? And for anyone who has snorkeled there, is it good. Where is the snorkeling area? Then at the end of the day will there be cabs to take us back to the ship? Thank you in advance. Yes, all the taxi drivers know where Doctors Cave Beach is...you pay at the entrance...and there is a small beach club type restaurant there. As far as snorkeling, there is not a lot to see from the beach. It's just a sandy beach, no reefs close by, but it's still fun and you do see a few fish. There was snorkeling equipment available to rent there. And there are plenty of cabs there to take you back to the port. My group walked down the street to Margaritaville for a drink after we left the beach. It's a little expensive, but it's a neat place to see, and they have a big tube slide that starts from the 3rd story and shoots you out into the water. There were people at the entrance that waved a taxi over to us when we were ready to leave. No Problem!

workn2cruise Posted December 3, 2012 #33 Share Posted December 3, 2012 We had the hardest time getting a taxi when we were in MoBay in October. We ended up on this huge bus which stopped at Dr's Cave and it was $5/pp but the tour guide was really selling her tour of the island. When a bunch of us insisted on going to the beach she had the driver stop at another beach first, Aqua something, and said it was the better beach. I don't know about that... We met a nice man who does independent tours in Jamaica who we're going to lookup when we go in April. He'll pick us up and take us wherever we want to go. It would be nice to see more of the island and then go to the beach or the Pork Pit.
gam888 Posted December 7, 2012 #34 Share Posted December 7, 2012 Our ship docks in Falmouth, there are 5 of us. How much would it be for a taxi to Doctor's Cave Beach and return? Can you pay the driver after he picks you up just to ensure he will be back for us? We were in Doctor's Cave Beach last year and really liked it. This time we are tempted to try another beach that is a ship excursion. One is called Chukka Beach Break, not use what is the exact name of the beach. The other one is called Red Stripe Beach, has anyone been to Doctor Cave's Beach and one of these other 2, to get us a comparison of them? We are interested in beaches that have calm water, and soft powdery sand. Thanks in advance. Is there anything to see in Montego Bay? Not really interested in Margarataville. mchelle1234 Posted December 12, 2012 #36 Share Posted December 12, 2012 We were just at Doctors Cave Beach on November 28, 2012. Ended up getting a cab at the Montego Bay port and taking a short over there. There is an entrance where you have to pay so that seems to limit the number of hawkers on the beach. It was perfectly safe. After paying for chairs/umbrellas, one of the workers will help set them up for you. You can order food and drink from waiters on the beach. Water was a bit murky that day we were there and the weather was overcast. However, we still had a nice time. Lots of cabs available as you are leaving. Have fun!
