Rare PurpleHays Posted December 31, 2013 #126 Share Posted December 31, 2013 Thanks, Geo, but how do I convert that to a folded bias satin banding? I was hoping to just run one stitch all the way around.
geocruiser Posted December 31, 2013 Author #127 Share Posted December 31, 2013 (edited) Thanks, Geo, but how do I convert that to a folded bias satin banding? I was hoping to just run one stitch all the way around. I wish that I knew. I don't quilt (too many pieces). So I am not sure that I am posting info that might help. But here is another one. http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2005/06/binding-hints.html I found this too. The link is to page 9. alowderphoto Posted January 2, 2014 #129 Share Posted January 2, 2014 So glad I found this thread! I've been thinking about sewing some stuff for our first cruise in May but I have no idea where to start. I'd probably want to make some nice flowing maxi dresses/skirts. Anyone had any luck finding some good patterns for these? Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
KeyOfSea Posted January 2, 2014 #130 Share Posted January 2, 2014 So glad I found this thread! I've been thinking about sewing some stuff for our first cruise in May but I have no idea where to start. I'd probably want to make some nice flowing maxi dresses/skirts. Anyone had any luck finding some good patterns for these? Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk These are the patterns that I'm using - maybe you will like one of them. Happy sewing! I'm (slowly) working on the following patterns: http://butterick.mccall.com/b5869-products-44947.php?page_id=678&search_control=display&list=search This is for my granddaughter. The pjs are white flannel with pink and black kitties. The bath robe is from a bright pink fleece. She selected the fabrics herself last July, at 20 months old. She knows what she likes and it's almost always pink. http://www.simplicity.com/p-8194-misses-mens-lounge-wear.aspx I'm making fleece Seahawks pants and a shirt for my DH. I'm also making myself a dress from a light peachie color. http://www.simplicity.com/p-8869-misses-plus-size-knit-dress.aspx I pinned this today and will cut it out tomorrow. I'm making dress D from a deep purple that has tiny rhinestones is small bunches spread out over the fabric. I'm not sure which one I'll cut out next but I have fabric in a bright red and a periwinkle to make formal dresses plus bow ties and cummberbunds for DH. http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m4321-products-5972.php?page_id=103&search_control=display&list=search I made the black vest and bow tie about a year ago. http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m6508-products-16290.php?page_id=108&search_control=display&list=search I'm going to make 2 differents styles from this pattern. I'm also going to make this pattern from more than one fabric. One is dress A in a blue batik with swordfish. The other is dress B out of two red fabrics. http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m6605-products-22998.php?page_id=483&search_control=display&list=search For this pattern I have a white with red, green, yellow and black (maybe more) in large brush strokes and a cream with blue flowers. These are for work and casual dinners. http://www.simplicity.com/p-5000-misses-special-occasion-dresses.aspx I'll be making this dress out of a print with black satin straps. http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/v8761-products-14731.php?page_id=4450&search_control=display&list=search I'm planning on making the large bag out of gray fabric with large black roses.on This will take me several months but at least I'm off work for the next 5 weeks and can get a few things done in that time. I've decided to start sewing before I complete cutting out all of the items. I have the red and perwinkle dresses, bow ties and cummberbunds left to cut out. I also haven't cut out the bag. I have plenty to sew and I need to finish the pjs and robe before we leave on the 18th.

Now I'm in trouble!!! :eek:I don't shop in Joann's unless I have a coupon to give them.:) What part of Arizona are you in? We don't have a Hobby Lobby here in Yuma so I was just deleting all of my emails from them. Now I will have to print the coupons. Geocruiser, the pattern you posted I made in a really pretty teal satin and made a jacket to match for an informal night. It turned out really cute. Have a great time sewing ladies, Gerry Hi Gerry, both Hobby Lobby and JoAnn's have apps for smart phones. You can just pull up the coupon on the app at the store and they will scan it. No need for paper coupons, which is good since I always forget them. Michael's also has an app with coupons. Lisa

You can also get Joann's coupons online at joanns.com Lisa, I have seen people using the smart phone to show their coupons. I still use paper because I have a dumb phone. Reason being Michael's doesn't sell those. I'm in mesa. We recently got a hobby lobby within the last couple years right near me.
