Ketchikan salmon run

In our experience the salmon have been running in Ketchikan by mid to late July. They are easy to see. Just go walking on Creek Street and you can watch them from the boardwalks that meander around the creek. When the run is at its height you can't possibly miss them! They are jumping out of the water!

When will the salmon start running in Ketchikan? We will be there on July 25th, any chance we will see this and where is the best place to go?

For those that are coming to Seattle before the cruise, the Ballard locks 3 miles north of the cruise ships is a great place to see salmon. 10,000/day are going through the fish ladder daily. You will also see the salmon killer sealions below the lock.

While the timing of salmon runs are influenced by a number of factors not the least of which are water levels and water temperatures, by late July you are almost certain to see salmon at Creek Street.

There certainly been salmon there in September when I have been there and while this can vary from year to year there will very likely be some in the river when you are there.:)

Good--we will keep our fingers crossed for the correct conditions.
