sbt518 Posted July 22, 2012 #1 Share Posted July 22, 2012 I know food in Bermuda is very expensive because it is all imported but are there any local specialties that we should not miss? We plan to drink some Rum Swizzles and Dark and Stormys and sample the fish chowder but is there anything else we should go out of our way to try? I'm thinking of things we can only get in Bermuda or are much better in Bermuda than anywhere else. Should we look for locally caught fish? Thanks in advance. njhorseman Posted July 23, 2012 #2 Share Posted July 23, 2012 Fish chowder and locally caught fish are good choices. I believe rockfish, snapper, wahoo and tuna are often caught in local waters.

Whiskers1 Posted July 26, 2012 #4 Share Posted July 26, 2012 Try the frog and onion in the Dock Yard, they have the best fish and chips. The nacho's are really good at the Swizzle Inn in St. George. Delish!:)

One highlight is the Bermuda Fish Chowder. We get it at the Hog Penny Pub in Hamilton. When served they'll offer a splash of dark rum and hot sherry pepper sauce -- it's great! SailBadtheSinner Posted July 26, 2012 #8 Share Posted July 26, 2012 What type of liquor (Bermuda Gold Liqueur) is this? Just wondering! Bermuda Gold Liqueur is a great rum based punches which is produced by the Somer's Distillery. The distillery is now part of Goslings who also markets the product in Bermuda. They use loquat fruits as one of the ingredients which is grown locally and has limited supply. The liqueur is therefore available only in the island. sbt518 Posted July 26, 2012 Author #9 Share Posted July 26, 2012 Great info. We'll look for the Bermuda Gold as well as the fish chowder and fish and chips. We're definitely going to the Frog and Onion because we want to try the locally brewed beer they make there. And one of the Swizzle Inns not sure which one. kendon Posted July 29, 2012 #10 Share Posted July 29, 2012 If you have time, go to The Marketplace on Church Street in Hamilton which is a great supermarket and get yourself some Bermudan condiments to bring home such as sherry pepper sauce. Great for souvenirs!
