Recieved our gty room assignment. DAWN 4506

We just recieved our sons cabin assignment. we booked him a gty. He was fine with any inside. For less than the price of a inside he got a porthole.

Anyone ever stay in this cabin or its vicinity?

I have had rooms close to the front in the past on other ships and had no problems.

I just hope our sons girlfriend doesn't get sea sick from the motion, the room is only 3 rooms from the bow end.

Thanks for any information you can give.

I can't help with your question, but as to the son's girlfriend....

1. Don't put the seasick thought in her head.

2. Have meclazine on hand just in case. Meclazine is the ingredient in Bonine and is "non drowsy".

Have a great vacation!

I think that we stayed in that same room or very near this room on the Star (same type of boat). It's remote and very quiet. Window is useless. Not much to say about it other than it's a room. I'd rather have an inside on deck 12 near the new suites than be on deck 4 with a porthole. You will get plenty of motion and a great view of the ocean if it's rough seas. I'd move to a higher deck.

Here's some information I found that may help you.

Deck-by-Deck Breakdown of the Best and Worst Cabins onboard the Norwegian Dawn

Deck 4

Most of the cabins on the Norwegian Dawn's Deck 4 have cabins above them -- this means that they are typically quieter compared to cabins beneath the disco or sunbathing areas (the noise of moving deck chairs late at night / early in the AM).

  • Forward on Deck 4 of the Norwegian Dawn, cabins 4500- 4503 are underneath the most aft portion of the stage. There could be some noise heard overhead from these staterooms during performances, as well as before and after when staff are preparing for or cleaning after a show.
  • Except for the most forward exterior and interior staterooms (4500- 4505), the rest of the staterooms on this deck have cabins above, and are consequently going to be quieter.

We sailed in 4511 last year and found it very loud (including in the middle of the night) because of the equipment located underneath it, which our cabin steward said was the laundry. I *think* my Dad sailed in 4506 this year and they said there was a little noise, but didn't say anything about getting woken up every couple of hours like we had across the hall, so it must be better.

Years ago, our BIL/SIL were in that forward section on the Dawn - they heard & can almost feel the waves when she is in motion with water splashing up against the exterior / as if they were below sea level. Solution - keep the curtains closed as if it's an inside cabin. Open it for natural lights & while it's at Dockyard in BDA. It's generally quiet, they did hear/felt machinery noises & gears - apparently, from the ship anchors being raised & lowered ?? since it was tendering at GSC on the Florida-Bahama trip. I don't believe it is the laundry room nearby as they said it wasn't around the clock or on a schedule, the washing & drying and spinning would be more constant with all those sheets, pillowcases, towels, tablecloths & napkins, etc. being used up daily ...

Strangely enough - it was reported to be noticeable in the morning only, perhaps they're too busy in the evening in the Stardust Theater and/or casino to notice it, returning late & too tired to notice any noise at all. Our niece was sharing the cabin with them and didn't have any complaints and actually likely the gentle rocking motion of the ship while BIL took Bonine ahead of time, and all was good - he got motion issues even when riding in car/van/buses/etc. on land too, anyway ...

Foot traffic is minimal most of time, except for "strayed" kids & adults (under the influence) running up & down the hall - which happened at all decks at odd hours, no matter what & regardless of stateroom categories booked ... Our extended family sailing NCL have had worst locations or assignmenets with "insides" like being below the restaurant kitchen/gallery, with the carts being moved around, etc. daily - in midship locations on deck 4.

I wouldn't really worry about it, besides, once the GTY cabin is assigned, as others said, it's pretty much a done deal - unlikely to get the call for $$ upgrade. Being at the FWD section of the ship with its elevators, it's often less crowded riding up to the buffet and walking down the stairs is easy enough, and the exercise to/from MDR is good to burn off those excellent desserts after the meals. :p

The sailing being August with many children onboard, you might all appreciate the peace & semi-isolation of the given location, plus, it's a quick walk to the evening shows. Enjoy it - ooooh, we badly need to get packing soon for another cruise, just waiting for those off-peak, off-season sale specials :D
