Newark, NJ to Radio City Music Hall

I am finding conflicting reports now. One says the SOL will open May 2013 and others say it is closed indefinitely. :confused:

 

I'd believe the National Park Service, which says:

 

Statue Closed due to Hurricane Sandy

Due to conditions created by Hurricane Sandy, Statue of Liberty National Monument and Ellis Island are currently closed. Although a projected reopening date has not yet been established, it will not occur in 2012.

You can get to the SOL from Liberty State Park in NJ. No need to go all the way into NYC. Would you have the whole day or are you trying to squeeze this trip in before sailing the same day?

 

We would have the whole day. We are planning on visiting in June. How would we get to the Park/SOL from Country Inn & Suites?

Cab is the easiest way to do this, but will be about $50 each way. To save money you might want to take a cab to Newark Penn Station and then take Path to the World Trade Center and walk to Battery Park to get the SOL ferry.

 

You have to find a balance between time, money, and stress. There are less expensive ways to do this, but they involve a longer time and more public transit.

We stayed at the Country Inn a few years ago and "I think" :o I remember people talking about a bus stop being nearby and it being an easy trip to NY. ??

There is bus service to NY but it is relatively infrequent and really not at all convenient if you are going to the SOL. From Country Inns you are better off taking a cab to Newark Penn Station for about $25 and then Path to lower Manhattan. You can also take a local NJ Transit bus to Newark Penn Station, but it will be more time consuming. It's always a choice among time, money, and stress to get around this area.
