Review of Carnival Conquest Not so Conquested

There wasn't really much going on during the sea days. We just hung around drank and talked since we were such a large group. They had Bing Bag toss everyday and the other activities were just limited.

The guy that did Karaoke was very dead and dry he was no fun at all and the song choice was limited. The casino always seemed to be crowded but I am not much of a gambler. I must say that Conquest need to get either a better Cruise Director or hype up their entertainment staff. There were a lot of older people on the ship. I was talking to Phil (entertainment staff) and he told me that they had to cut down on a lot of the fun things they did because guest were complaining, a lot of the southern guest were complaining.

There were a lot of kids in the "adult only" places and the staff had to pg13 a lot of things because of the kids being there. I felt like they should have just kicked the kids out.

I did the mixologist contest and that was fun, I didn't win my friend did and her drink was named Teke Teke. By the end of the day of day 2 sea day I was more then ready to see Jamaica

Well, I'm Southern and I'm older I guess (65), but I like to have as much fun as those from the North. Not sure what is meant by this comment.

I am Southern also and my parents (in their 70's) and they had a blast when we went on our first cruise. I sure wish the OP would come back and explain that statement.

How did you make your reservations to Sunset Beach? How much did it cost for the day pass? Can you just walk up and get in without a reservation?

We were up bright and early ready to get off this ship. We had reservations at Sunset Beach Resort. We all got in a van which cost $3 pp and headed over there, when we got there we were directed to the desk where we pay for the services and was given a wrist band and beach towels and was told to enjoy are stay. My first place was the bar, I ordered a rum punch and it was so good good good. The staff there was very nice and had never given us any problems.

We went and sat out on the beach and the children went to the water slide. Out on the beach I went Kayaking and laid out. I didn't get in the water because there was a lot of rocks and shells and I had forgot my water shoes, but while kayaking i got to see a lot of coral and beautiful water. After being on the beach we decided to go over to the water slide what a great choice. The walk up to the top was so dam long but the way down was amazing .

After the water slide we decided to have lunch. I am a vegetarian so there were a lot of things I didn't eat. No complaints here I know a lot of people don't always have food for us. From what everyone else was saying the food was amazing, it was served buffet style and they had so many choices, after eating we headed to the pool to be closer to the swim up bar.

At the swim up bar we had drink after drink after drink. They were not stingy at all and they were so nice and respectful. They put music on for us and we just drank and had lots of fun until it was time to go. Sunset was only about 4 minutes from the ship so we left there with 30 minutes to spare. The resort had a gulf course, play ground, basketball course, and other things that were all for use. The only thing we could not use was the spa unless we paid for it.

I'm just glad to see that this family had a great time together. I own a home in a large northern city and one in Mississippi and a northern or southern comment does not bother me. Someone probally complained about the style of music. I am not offended.

Never said I was offended, just that the statement was confusing. The OP said nothing about the music. They actually said that there were a lot of older people on the ship and that they talked to someone on the entertainment staff and he told her they had to cut down on a lot of the "fun things" they did because guests were complaining, a lot of the southern guests were complaining.

Now, I have no idea how anyone would know if they were southern or northern or midwestern or whatever guests that were complaining unless they came out and said "I am from the south and I am complaining." Which sounds about as dumb as it seemed when I was typing it!

But, seriously, what type of "fun things" were cut down on and why? I really cannot see them cutting out the activities just because some people were complaining? Did these people not know they were on the "fun ship"?

Please OP - come back and explain yourself.....

OK, you complain it was craziness at the port with the people still getting off. The specifically asked you not to arrive early, but you did anyway - that is contributing to the problem, not helping the situation.

As for Mr. Sanchos losing your reservation - you must have lost it. You need to bring the printed confirmation and they only charge you the amount due at the bottom. They don't look at anything else. It took us all if 30 seconds to pay and get our wristbands. The person who escorted us to our palapa introduced our waiter who immediately gave us the menu and explained that we could order anything from the menu as well as hit the buffet as often as we wished. He also showed us where to get the snorkel gear and kayaks. Apparently, you misunderstood - not Mr. Sanchos fault. We were there 8/31 and had no flies - just great food and service and lots of Mango Margaritas.

Conquest is one of our favorite ships - we had 4 great cruises on her. I guess everything is just better in Texas. She got rave reviews when she sailed from Galveston.

We were on this same sailing and really enjoyed this cruise. It was fun to read this review.

But I can't say much for the entertainment because we spent most of our time in the casino :o

At times I did enjoy listening to the people sing Karaoke but other times it was annoying and loud. I think that is a poor spot to have the Karaoke.

There was one young man who stole the show of the Promenade one day, he sang a Michael Jackson song, he was great!

I am from Colorado and can tell when someone is from the south by their accent.

I too have sailed the conquest and found it to be lacking in many areas. The food was nothing to write home about, staff was rude and usually acted as if they would rather have been any place but where they were. Decor was gaudy, tasteless, just awful, but that is the standard for carnival ships. I didn't like sailing out of NO either, we went in Feb. and lost 2 days of warm weather just sailing the Mississippi! I really could go on but have wasted enough time on this ship, and on this cruise line in general!

I am not sure how you wasted 2 days sailing the Mississippi since it is only an 8 hour stretch of sailing time once you leave the NOLA port. So by midnight or so you hit the gulf and warmer waters and temps.

Not trying to be rude, seriously just an honest question. If you dislike Carnival so much in general, why are you wasting more of your time on the Carnival board? I see this every so often and it just confuses me. If I have no interest in a specific cruiseline or topic I never go to that board.

wow, people, she is clearly stating her opinion. It can differ from yours!!!!!

OP, I appreciate you taking the time to write your review and include your pics. LOVE EM!

To the others....if I recall correctly, the OP merely stated what she was told by the CCL staff about the "southern" folks. and so what, big deal. maybe that's what his/her opinion was.

I ask myself all the time why anyone would want to write a review because some people have to come out and flame and defend no matter what.

OP, please ignore the rudies (the name my ds calls rude people) and carry on.

thank you again for your review. I love the photos. My next cruise is on the Conquest (for the second time) I am curious to see how she looks after her dry dock this fall.

Hate to tell you but some of us born and bred down here in the south don't have that strong of an accent. My mother says it was all those Northern teachers! :) I actually can either have an accent or not depending on who I am talking to and how casual or professional the conversation is.

I was neither rude nor was I flaming. I just did not understand the comment. It was not just about southern folks, but also older people and how supposedly they cancelled a lot of the activities because of that. That makes no sense what so ever and I questioned it. I also appreciate the OP's review but I wanted clarification. In fact, I don't believe that anyone was rude or flaming the OP. The comment just didn't make sense. Are we not allowed to question things like that?

Please go back and re-read the posts. I don't see anyone getting rude or flaming. Just questioning. Since when does questioning equal rudeness?

I think most northern people have very strong accents. although I have been told I have a southern accent - that most obviously is some kind of hearing defect for those I'm talking to.

As a former resident of the state of Louisiana I can honestly say there are very few days that drop down to the "warm" range.

Most are just HOT!

Have to agree with you. Like your profile pic dchi72. Btw GO DAWGS!!!!!(Proud Louisiana Tech Alumni c/o 1997 & c/o 2000.).

Went on this cruise last year on Conquest but I sailed out of Galveston. Missed Grand Cayman due to bad weather. Most of the days we had bad weather but still made the most of it.

I was not fond of Conquest either. I did not find the staff necessarily rude, but more inattentive. It was my worst cruise so far. And I did not care for the port of NOLA, I thought it was disorganized.

All that said, guess which ship I am going on next... Conquest of course. I may not like NOLA, but we can drive there. I got a good price, like the itinerary and it will have the 2.0 upgrades. So Conquest gets another shot.

I am confused as to what you mean by this? What "fun things" were guests complaining about that they cut down? Why? How do you know it was Southern guests complaining? I am really confused as to your explanation of why there were not things to do.

It was not I that said it, it was the cruise worker Phil that explained to me that they cut back on some of the activities because the southern people were complaing about it. Don't shoot the messenger I am just stating what was said to me when I asked about a game called quest and a few others.

I did not get into him of what he meant by the "southern people" because I did not care to know.

Yeah, that sort of confused me, too.

And I'm still trying to figure out what "not so Conquested" in the thread title means! :D

Looks like you went to some nice beaches, but I would've wanted to see more of the islands/ports. I always do some sort of tour the first time or two I visit a port. After that, I tend to go to the places I've seen that I know I like.

But we all cruise for different reasons!

Thanks for the review and photos. She looks like a nice ship. I'm going to have a hard time waiting 14 months!!

I loved the beaches had fun at all of them except in Mexico, however I did not enjoy the Conquest ship. It was boreing the food was not that good and the staff wasn't good in the entertainment part. I am not saying this because I want to "bash Carnival as I cruise Carnival every August. I just didn't have the best time on this particular ship.
